  • Preparation for the Sabbath.

But I into thy house will come
    in thine abundant grace;
And I will worship in thy fear
    toward thy holy place.
    Psalm 5:7

David was much in secret worship, prayed often alone (Psalms 5:2,3), and yet was very constant and devout in his attendance on the sanctuary. The duties of the closet are designed to prepare us for, not to excuse us from, public ordinances. To worship him reverently and with a due sense of the infinite distance there is between God and man: “In thy fear will I worship, with a holy awe of God upon my spirit,” Hebrews 12:28. God is greatly to be feared by all his worshippers. To take his encouragement, in worship, from God himself only.
    [Matthew Henry]

  • THE DWELLING PLACE OF GOD
    =========================
    THE SAINT MUST WALK ALONE.
    A.W. TOZER

MOST OF THE WORLD'S GREAT SOULS have been lonely. Loneliness seems to be one price the saint must pay for his saintliness.

This cheerful denial of loneliness proves only that the speaker has never walked with God without the support and encouragement afforded him by society. The sense of companionship which he mistakenly attributes to the presence of Christ may and probably does arise from the presence of friendly people. Always remember: you cannot carry a cross in company. Though a man were surrounded by a vast crowd, his cross is his alone and his carrying of it marks him as a man apart. Society has turned against him; otherwise he would have no cross. No one is a friend to the man with a cross. "They all forsook him, and fled."

The pain of loneliness arises from the constitution of our nature. God made us for each other. The desire for human companionship is completely natural and right.

The loneliness of the Christian results from his walk with God in an ungodly world, a walk that must often take him away from the fellowship of good Christians as well as from that of the unregenerate world. His Godgiven instincts cry out for companionship with others of his kind, others who can understand his longings, his aspirations, his absorption in the love of Christ; and because within his circle of friends there are so few who share his inner experiences he is forced to walk alone. The unsatisfied longings of the prophets for human understanding caused them to cry out in their complaint, and even our Lord Himself suffered in the same way.

The man who has passed on into the divine Presence in actual inner experience will not find many who understand him. A certain amount of social fellowship will of course be his as he mingles with religious persons in the regular activities of the church, but true spiritual fellowship will be hard to find. But he should not expect things to be otherwise. After all, he is a stranger and a pilgrim, and the journey he takes is not on his feet but in his heart.

He walks with God in the garden of his own
soul and who but God can walk there with him?

He is of another spirit from the multitudes that tread the courts of the Lord's house. He has seen that of which they have only heard, and he walks among them somewhat as Zacharias walked after his return from the altar when the people whispered, "He has seen a vision."

The truly spiritual man is indeed something of an oddity. He lives not for himself but to promote the interests of Another. He seeks to persuade people to give all to his Lord and asks no portion or share for himself. He delights not to be honored but to see his Saviour glorified in the eyes of men. His joy is to see his Lord promoted and himself neglected. He finds few who care to talk about that which is the supreme object of his interest, so he is often silent and preoccupied in the midst of noisy religious shoptalk. For this he earns the reputation of being dull and overserious, so he is avoided and the gulf between him and society widens. He searches for friends upon whose garments he can detect the smell of myrrh and aloes and cassia out of the ivory palaces, and finding few or none he, like Mary of old, keeps these things in his heart.

  • Testimony about my pastor

There’s a version of Christian masculinity making the rounds online:

    Deadlifts.
    AR-15s.
    MMA.
Shouting “Christ is King” between reps.

    Some truth in it.
    Discipline matters. Strength matters.

But most of it? Pure noise.
Masculinity dressed in ego, not reverence.

Let me show you a different kind of man.

I spoke with him on Sunday.
    He smiled. Listened. Encouraged.
    Overflowing with joy.

    You’d never know:

His wife’s been battling serious illness, in and out of the hospital.
    Barely mobile. Mostly bed-bound.
Wildfires were threatening his home that very day.

    But there he sat.
    Listening to me.
    Giving counsel.
    Peaceful. Gentle. Seemingly unshaken.

Not because he doesn’t feel the weight...he does, deeply.
But because he knows where to place it.

    The fire is beyond him.
But the Lord is his strength.

    That’s masculinity.
    Not the kind that flexes.
    The kind that endures.

I’m a boy compared to godly men like this.
Men shaped by trials, not testosterone.
Men who bleed quietly in prayer, not loudly on camera.

I’ve got a long way to go.

    But this much is clear:

    Real Christian masculinity isn’t loud.
    It doesn’t need applause.
    It’s faithful.
    Gentle under pressure.
Rooted in Christ, not curated for Instagram.

It looks less like a warrior poet…
And more like a man washing feet.

Because the greatest Man who ever lived didn’t conquer with muscle.

    He conquered with mercy.

    And when the smoke clears...

That’s the man I want to be like.

Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again.
    Isaiah 51:22

The Lord, who is able to help thee, and has wherewithal to relieve thee, — thy Lord, who has an incontestable right to thee, and will not alienate it, — thy God, in covenant with thee, and who has undertaken to make thee happy.

  • Romans 5:1
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

    I. We have peace with God, v. 1. It is sin that breeds the quarrel between us and God, creates not only a strangeness, but an enmity; the holy righteous God cannot in honour be at peace with a sinner while he continues under the guilt of sin. Justification takes away the guilt, and so makes way for peace. And such are the benignity and good-will of God to man that, immediately upon the removing of that obstacle, the peace is made. By faith we lay hold of God’s arm and of his strength, and so are at peace, Isa. 27:4, 5. There is more in this peace than barely a cessation of enmity, there is friendship and loving-kindness, for God is either the worst enemy or the best friend.

  • It is evidence of grace within the soul that we get a right view of the corruption within us. This will keep the soul humble and diligent in seeking to exercise and grow in grace. Grace is a heart-humbling thing: the more the soul has of it, the more they are willing to acknowledge their own shame.

  • A Prayer for Self-Worth and Healing:

    Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a heavy heart, feeling lost and unworthy. But today, I choose to believe that I am who You say I am — loved, chosen, and fearfully made.

Lord, heal the broken places within me. Remove every lie the enemy has spoken over my life — the lies that say I’m not enough, that I’m unworthy of love, or that I’m too broken to be restored.

I declare that I am walking in Your grace and favor. I release the pain of my past, the rejection, the hurt, and the self-doubt. I surrender it all to You.

Help me to see myself through Your eyes — strong, beautiful, and full of purpose. Teach me to walk in confidence and to attract the love, opportunities, and blessings that align with the woman You’ve called me to be.

I trust that You are working behind the scenes, aligning my steps, and preparing the right man who will love and lead me the way You intended.

I receive Your peace, Your joy, and Your healing right now.

    In Jesus’ name,
    Amen 🏾
