the kelce brothers of the cat world

RELATE…as in ‘can you relate?’

Jason and Travis Kelce have nothing on my kitties.

Chunk and White Paws are brothers just like the Kelce boys.

Fame and fortune might be a bit different, but the similarities are amazing.

The Kelce brothers like to eat? So do Chunk and White Paws.

Exercise? Absolutely!

Quality sleep? Say no more!

I hear Taylor Swift has cats. I wonder if I should write and let her know the similarities that exist between my cats and Jason and Travis.

Surely, there is a hit song there….

nature’s oj

MOCK

‘It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature’–so the saying goes.

Especially not when Mother Nature fools you.

This is “Mock Orange.” I have it planted in part of my back yard, along the house, and it bends around the corner to take up half the side of my house. This plant reseeds itself and grows by producing suckers.

It is not very pretty in the wintertime–mostly thin branches that I sometimes cut back and sometimes not. Mock Orange is not too particular.

But come the spring–this plant shines. White blossoms everywhere!

Quote for you:“Mockers resent correction, so they avoid the wise.” (Proverbs 15:12)

i’m singing in the rain

SHOWERS

There are usually two schools of people regarding rain/showers:

1.Those who complain that rainy days and Mondays always bring them down.

2.And then those who let a smile be their umbrella.

Of course, plastic shopping bags on your head might be the cause of feeling down.

Instead, think that grey skies are going to clear up and put on a happy face!

For those of you undecided about April showers, please join me in a chorus of ‘rain, rain, go away, come again another day.’

make yourself at home

PARLOUR

“Will you walk into my parlour?” said the Spider to the Fly,
“‘Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I have many curious things to shew when you are there.”
“Oh no, no,” said the little Fly, “to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne’er come down again.”

And so begins that famous poem by Mary Howitt.

You really find yourself rooting for the fly.

“Be alert!” “Stick to your guns!”

Sadly, not to be.

“And now dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly flattering words, I pray you ne’er give heed:
Unto an evil counsellor, close heart and ear and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale, of the Spider and the Fly.”

Which just goes to show–flattery will get you nowhere. Well, nowhere that you want to be.

Have a great Monday. Be careful of spiders. And parlours!

temper, temper

TOLERANCE

Bert told Ernie to take it easy on the food.

The farmer was trying a new recipe and it seemed to be heavy on the beans. And greens.

But Ernie said it tasted great and would not stop eating.

Bert tolerated Ernie’s joy in eating but was forced to duck on the downwind.

Don’t overeat this weekend. The Easter Bunny will be watching! Happy weekend. Happy Easter. See you Monday!

you don’t know jack

DUPLICITOUS

Dishonest? Untruthful? Lying?

No, we did that yesterday.

This is a little different. Maybe just false. Or insincere.

Like this sign.

Jack. As in Jack Nicholson? He lives here?

Or that is the shape of Florida. Maybe they mean you are in Jacksonville?

Jack Daniels Old No. 7? An iconic 80-proof (ABV) Tennessee sour mash whiskey known for its smooth, charcoal-mellowed flavor profile, featuring notes of caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak?

See what I mean? That sign is definitely duplicitous.

Maybe we should go inside, ask if this is Jacksonville or if Jack Nicholson is here. Or maybe just try some of that caramel and vanilla stuff. Sounds like a great ice cream flavor.

elect a clown, get a circus

TRICKSTER

A person who tricks or deceives people. Swindler. Cheat. Fraud. Confidence Man.

I posted this photo in January 2021. Still relevant.

No April Fools’ joke.

hissing….like a cat?!

HISSY FIT

Hissy Fit: It is likely a contraction of “hysterical fit” or derived from the hissing, spluttering sound an angry person makes, similar to a cat.**

“One more time, Shirley. Tell me one more time that you don’t know how I could not use conditioner to control my ‘wild hair.’ And no, I am not having a hissy fit!”

**upon discussing today’s Prompt with my cats, it was decided that no cats would be used in today’s posting. And to clear up any jokes or comments, no, they did not ‘chicken out.’

sweat it out

TONIC…and you thought of gin, right?!

Remember the old movies where some city slicker would drive into town and try to sell people a secret tonic that would cure every ailment known to man?

I think now that tonic is known as ‘exercise.’

The body achieves what the mind believes – Men’s Journal

Don’t stop when you’re tired. Stop when you’re done – Peleton

The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen – Strong Viking

We were at a rest stop and saw this van pulled up close to the curb. No one else was there, but I was intrigued by the bumper sticker: BRASH coffee roasters. Sounded like my kind of coffee–extra strong.

But then this woman gets out and starts exercising and as I got closer, I swear she was counting, “..a hundred and one, hundred and two, hundred and three….”

Not buying it, lady, but got any coffee?

Tipping my cup to you. Have a great Monday!

gold stars for everyone

ACHIEVEMENT…as in ‘you did it!’

Back in grammar school, we had a listing of all the kids in the classroom and when we did something great–I don’t recall what ‘something’ included–we received a gold star next to our name so the entire class could see our achievements.

Heck with the classroom! Now companies are letting everyone know of their stellar achievements by advertising them. Gold star for this company.

Even our vet got into the act. When Parker had her first dental, she was given  a certificate for her great courage during surgery.

Wouldn’t that be great if doctors gave out those kinds of certificates to adults? Heck, yes! We deserve a gold star, too.

Cut yourself some slack this weekend. Give yourself a gold star. You made it through the week. What an achievement! Have a great weekend. See you Monday.
