Development is about more than fundraising — it’s about building relationships, securing resources, and growing support to advance LOPL’s mission. Your contribution supplements our existing support to finance public library essentials.
Together, we’re investing to help our library and our community thrive.
Support the Library in the way that means the most to you.
Our Summer Reading Program is an annual tradition that has grown more than 20% in each of the last two years, with participation from readers of all ages. Families who read together build a lifelong love of reading.
Donations received April 1 — National Library Giving Day — through April 30 will support our 2026 Summer Reading Program.
April 1–April 30 donations up to $30,0000 are 100% matched by the LOPL Foundation.
SRP encourages reading, helps reduce the “summer academic slide,” and provides enriching, engaging programs — all at no cost to participants. Last year, more than 8,000 readers logged nearly 3.3 million minutes of reading!

These priorities reflect current initiatives and may be updated as community needs evolve.
We’re prioritizing literacy—especially for our youngest learners. Research shows that 90% of brain development occurs before age five, making early exposure to reading essential. We’re equipping our branches with Science of Reading materials and Ready to Read centers, and working with community partners to build the foundation for lifelong learning and success.
Most Chatham and Liberty County residents live more than three miles from a library branch. Mobile libraries are the answer! With two fully equipped vehicles, we’ll bring books, technology, programming and Wi-Fi directly into neighborhoods, visiting early learning centers and senior living facilities on a regular schedule.
We’re committed to creating welcoming, functional spaces for all patrons. At our Bull Street location, we’ll be creating private, quiet, reservable study rooms and meeting places to address a clear community need.
All donations are tax-deductible under IRS Section 170.

“The library has given my grandchildren a safe place to explore and be creative. The socialization and physical development have been phenomenal! All of the children love participating in the Summer Reading Challenge. The activities available are exactly what they need for their ages.”
“We absolutely love our local library! I have been taking my son to Storytime for about two years, and as a curious and confident boy, he is already reading at age four! We are excited for the Summer Reading Program and all of the programming. As a stay-at-home mom, we value activities that are low-cost and engaging for young minds.”
