Join the Movement to Provide Zero-Cost Textbooks to Students

There is more than one way to provide a free textbook to your students! Explore the options below to learn more:

Open Educational Resources (OER) are books and other learning materials that are free to access, use, and adapt, reuse. These are always protected with an open Creative Commons licence or in the public domain.

Learn where to look for OER.

Open Access books are free to use. These are protected under a traditional copyright license, so it is best to link students directly to the resource rather than sharing a saved version like a PDF.
Licensed e-books are a common choice for providing students with free textbooks. The library can find out if a license is available for your favorite textbook or help you search for e-books that can be licenced for your course. Ask a librarian about licensing e-books.
You aren't limited to just one textbook! Create your own custom reading list for students using chapters from several books, articles from journals, or other open-access or library-licensed resources. Ask about tools to manage your course reading lists.

Already know what book you want to use? See if the library can buy a license!
