Get the Libby AppAmazon has announced it will end support for Kindle e-readers and Kindle Fire tablets released in 2012 or earlier, with the cutoff date set for May 20, 2026. This means affected devices will no longer be able to borrow or download new books after that date.
Devices Affected
These devices, some over 14 years old, will still be able to read books already downloaded before the cutoff, and their libraries can be accessed via the free Kindle app, Kindle for Web, or newer Kindle hardware.
What Happens After May 20, 2026
Amazon says the change is due to advancements in screen resolution, processing speed, battery life, and accessibility features in newer devices, and that these older models have been supported for at least 14 years.
