Unexpected

As I recall these things;
The way that you sing along
To every song on the radio
The way that you like to drive
Every place we go
The way that you repeatedly point out
The only two constellations you know
The way that you always, always
Walk too slow
As I recall these things
Now that you’re gone,
I miss these things
I unexpectedly enjoyed

For Naught

Whisper in the window
Shadow in the hall
Sometimes I think I feel you
But you’re not really
Here at all

Laughter on the wind
Face in the crowd
So many things remind me
But the silence can be
So loud

Remembering you here
Remembering you’re not
Pulling petals off of roses
And wishing upon stars
All for naught

Old Timer

I’m missing hair that used to be there. I comb over what little I have to hide the shine. I’m missing teeth so I can’t eat beef. I smile less to mind the gap. I’m missing time. I miss my mind. Sometimes words are hard to find. I’m missing peace though I mostly sleep. I’m missing the memories I wish I could keep. When I forget what I should be concerned about, old age isn’t so bad. Sometimes, I miss missing what I had.
