Emerald Escape

Eyes of emerald green
Wading pools
Surface so serene
Rippling undertow unseen

The prompt is “emerald escape” from Maria Giesbrecht @theguelphpoet on Instagram. April 13, National Poetry Month 2022.

False Start

The morning sun shone through the large office window. The a/c unit hummed. My computer monitors in front of me were ready for the day’s work. I could think of nothing more interesting than the back of my eyelids.

Regret

Twilight is nigh.
Seeking soaring stars; wandered, though
Twilight is nigh.
When I saw your cobalt eyes cry,
Without a sound, I pondered so.
The gift it seems, I squandered, oh!
Twilight is nigh.
