LC4 (also known as L0phtCrack 4) is a legacy Windows password auditing and recovery tool developed by @stake, Inc. in the early 2000s. It was intended for system administrators and security professionals to evaluate the strength of Windows account passwords and verify compliance with organizational policies across local machines and Windows domains.

Key capabilities:

  • Targets Windows LM and NTLM password hashes common to that era.
  • Imports credentials from system databases and authorized dumps; can analyze authentication exchanges for auditing purposes.
  • Uses multiple attack modes (dictionary with word-mangling rules, hybrid, and brute force) to identify weak passwords.
  • Supports scheduling, automation, and resumable sessions for routine audits.
  • Generates reports that highlight weak, blank, or aging passwords and policy violations.

LC4 is discontinued software; later iterations appeared as LC5/L0phtCrack 5 under different ownership. If you need similar functionality today, use current, legally obtained tools and conduct audits only with explicit authorization and in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

LC4 is developed by @stake, Inc. and is used by 1 user of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 4.0 and 5.0. The names of program executable files are lc4.exe, HashGen.exe, lc3.exe, lc5.exe and Siemens LC4.exe.
