Back Onside are a UK-based charity that seeks to improve Scotland’s mental health by combining education, support and social inclusion. Their work centres around a series of sports-inspired activities such as ‘changing-room chats’ and group activity to inspire real change.

We have worked with Back Onside since 2019, using their purpose of delivering ‘Support Through Sport’ to connect local initiatives with sporting organisations such as football and rugby clubs.
The name ‘Back Onside’ is drawn from the footballing term, helping individuals to return to an ‘onside’ position and continue their lives unrestricted. This invisible framework is intrinsic to the brand and forms an unspoken nudge to help anyone experiencing poor mental health regain control and return to a position of strength.
The broader visual system is informed by a bright and energetic system alongside subtle motion design to express the charity’s active nature. We then organised the logo’s typography behind a metaphorical line to symbolise control. The wordmark then animates to indicate that this process is never truly complete — it is an ongoing exercise that needs regular maintenance to bring order from chaos.
