The end of the year was weird this past school year. I ended up giving this Teacher Report Card survey in March because I was on maternity leave from Spring Break until the end of the year. Now I have a baby daughter and can’t actually imagine going back to school, but also can’t wait to go back to school. It’s been the longest and shortest summer ever. So this survey doesn’t really have the same oomph as in previous years, and only 36 of my students actually did it (probably didn’t help that they were doing a Desmos art project at the time I posted it). I’m posting the results nonetheless.
I’ve been using the same base of a survey for years. Here are my previous results: 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023. I’ve slowly been adding and taking away certain questions. I’m striving to get feedback that I can actually use and that I care about. Here’s the survey I used this year (It will force you to make a copy):

*Disclaimer: These results are being published because I like to go back and review them and see how things have changed/improved throughout the years. The rest of this post probably won’t be too useful for readers who aren’t me, but feel free to read if you wish! Reflection will be coming at a later date; these are merely raw results.

- I would say use the notecards as an advantage not a disadvantage
- That Mrs. Grayson is great and that is the first teacher I’ve ever had that actually was able to teach math properly. I would say that I have failed or almost failed every math class I’ve taken and this is the first class I’ve done genuinely well on. I’ve never had to stress in the class because she doesn’t throw new topics suddenly at you and you feel prepared for class.

What advice would you give a student who will be taking this math class (Algebra 1/Algebra 2) next year?
- i would say that its a pretty really easy class becasue it not hardworking and she answers all of your questions
- Use the study guide and you’ll pass all of the tests.
- It’s pretty easy, There’s a lot of topics but they’re manageable
- I would say just take notes when you can and ask questions if you have any.
- Take notes and use the note sheet for tests to your advantage
- Pay attention, ask questions and do the practice quizzes.
- Take good notes on the extra paper that she gives you.
- to pay attention and ask for help
- pay attention to notes.
- listen to Mrs Grayson
- This class may be hard at first but then once you make notes it will be better.Always write down things on your notes sheet for your test.
- that is enjoyable
- Do your homework
- Pay attention and ask for hwlp when you dont understand something
- Finish your homework packets if not she always accepts late or incomplete assignments
- Pay attention
- It’s challenging, but if you ask the right questions, you’ll be alright
- Just study a lot
- don’t be stressed

- Do your homework when she says, dont wait til the end.
- Make sure to use your notecards and homework and you will do just fine but you also need to focus in this class!
- The class isn’t as difficult as it sounds. You shouldn’t be scared of discouraged because you already know a lot of the stuff.
- Don’t try to cut corners, you’ll probably confuse yourself.
- Do the homework and review guides
- I would just say to try and pay attention the whole time in the class and get all of your work done
- Study
- To make sure you stay on top of your homework and make sure to do a note card for every quiz and you will always be prepared for every quiz and test you have.
- Make sure to pay attention when she is doing work on the board. If you miss it, nothing will make sense. If you need to check your phone, or do something, do it during work time because you can always do it for home work.
- That you should keep up with the work and ask questions i you don’t understand or completely sure on something.
- Just do your work, make sure you prepare for test, and respect the teacher make sure you always listening.
- To pay attention and study
- Do the practices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- pay attention because you could get lost
- At the beginning depending where you went to middle school, you should already know most if not all of what Mrs.Grayson is teaching but later in the year it starts to get more challenging and new topics appear, but it is important to note that skills from past quizzes will be important to the future.
What is something Mrs. Grayson should keep doing next year?
- Everything (5)
- note sheets on tests (4)
- Keep being her authentic self, positive energy, enthusiasm (3)
- just going around and asking how were doing with our work (2)
- I like the homework packets, they’re not too long or extremely challenging. It allows students to complete their work at their own pace. It’s also very nice to not be assigned a specific number of questions every night. (2)
- Letting people sit where they want to work and being a great teacher
- a passion for teaching and helping students
- math
- teaching
- Games
- Handing out the physical copies of the slides whenever a student has missed a day
- Friday free writes
- Idk
- keep using the zoom
- Keep being enthusiastic about math. And the random facts you put up every day.
- showing work on problems step by step
- keep grading the way you grade i like how we actually get credit for the things we get right even if we get the actual problem wrong
- Being nice
- Going into depth. I loved how she would explain every component of the math, so people could understand. At the beginning I was like “I thought that was common sense” and then as the math got harder, I was like “thank god she is going into depth right now”.
- Offering help before after and during school.
- Give student practice sheet before the test
- keep having fun doing your job and engaging with students
- Keep providing practices
- no homework
- Explaining topics in a way that everyone can understand.
What is something Mrs. Grayson should change for next year?
- Nothing/idk (25)
- not changing seats EVERY week. (3)
- Less demos activity.
- I still don’t like the homework situation. I would rather reviews be graded so that the people who need the extra practice get it, and the people who don’t aren’t punished for it.
- Give more candy to students
- Maybe do more examples on the harder topics if students seem to be confused.
- I really liked how Mrs. Grayson ran the class this year there’s not much I’d change. I’d say don’t be afraid to be a little more assertive when students aren’t paying attention.
- More Kahoots, Blookets and interactiveness
- Maybe not teaching so much on one day so that students have time to adjust to the new topics and to practice.
- I feel like more use of the whiteboards, like using them to follow along with you for the first problem of a unit would be helpful because we can make a lot of mistakes and learn from them so when we write them down its less messy. If that makes sense.
What is something Mrs. Grayson should change about her classroom?
- Nothing/idk (17)
- Maybe add something personalized to her (posters, pictures, quotes) in her classroom because most of the decorations are from other teachers. (7)
- the weekly seating change (2)
- I would say make the tables be like groups of 4 I think it works best. (2)
- Different openers at the start of class each week.
- better seats
- the homework thing.
- HAve the desk in rows more often
- maybe the layout of all the tables just to spice things up
- Like hanging lights honestly. I feel like yellow light makes me relax more than the white light coming out of the huge wall of windows.
- More flexable seating
- make sure the seating is fair, for example some students should be place infront of taller people if they cannot see and if someone has trouble seeing move them closer to the board.
What is something that’s memorable from this class?
- nothing/idk (3)
- seeing pictures of students in a wall
- Line art projects
- Ms. B and Ms. Grayson helping us with math and pi day
- making new friends.
- bridget and elizabeths friendship
- The day we were playing P.I.E songs all day and the day I went into the second room and felt the sunlight the whole period.
- The projects that we do.
- how easy i understand topics
- how many laughs we had in that class.
- everything
- The amazing teacher.
- Playing games
- Genuinely enjoying math
- X is equal to negative B plus or minus the square root of B squared minus 4 A C all over 2 A
- Mrs. Grayson’s great and open personality
- changing seats every week.
- Enjoyed being there
- Her birthday gift she gave me I really appreciated it, and also her funny songs she always incorporated.
- How I would look forward to this class because Mrs. Grayson always made you feel comfortable
- the good vibes
- It’s one of my most laid back classes of the day and it’s right in the middle so it’s really relaxing.
- Test days when I would finish the test and just relax after finally using the knowledge I had gained throughout the week or month, something like that.
- The teacher
- all of the interesting conversations that went on
- Interesting arguements
- Being able to finally know what is going on in math and actually enjoying it.
- This one dudes chair broke while I walked through the door right in front of me. Like snapped in half.
- We had to change seats every week.
- having fun in here
- Hailey ❤
- the people and teacher
- New friends I made here even though I thought that it would be harder too.
How could Mrs. Grayson improve how she teaches a topic?
- Nothing/idk (22)
- Spend more time on subjects that are difficult/slow down (2)
- Maybe when we’re doing practice problems, you can have a table for people who don’t fully understand how to do the topic and go through the problems with them slowly
- When taking notes she should check if not all but majority are done copying everything done
- I think just making sure to explain the process step by step and havign students write it down for when they’re doing practice on their own.
- I honestly have nothing, she does great. Maybe zoom in a little more
- Provide more examples when teaching a topic because sometimes I would only have one or two to go off of and I would have to try to reverse through it and struggle.
- Showing work for homework answer key
- Honestly sometimes i feel like you could be faster like sometimes i space out if you go to slow
- Do a whole week of studying before test
- More practice, and asking for student feedback to see if there’s certain problems that people especially need help on.
- Give kids specific advise on challenging things
How could Mrs. Grayson improve how she shows she cares about you?
- nothing/idk (28)
- asking how they are. (2)
- She already is by going around to everyone asking if they understand or if they have any question
- More voting on specific things, like what we would do for that day or even as big as testing days, even if that becomes an issue later.
- meetings like she did before spring break
- By asking about weekends and events and checking in with students when they notice somethings off.
- maybe engage more with students
- Including word problems with people’s names and certain activities they like would be a fun idea.
How could Mrs. Grayson improve her communication with her students?
- nothing/idk (29)
- Use remind more often 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 (2)
- Just continue to answer questions to the best of your abilities.
- I think its fine how it is at the beginning of class you tell us what we need and what were going to do and always remind us to do our homework
- By explaining lesson plans throughout and not changing plans suddenly.
- Making sure everyone is in a good spot in the classroom to hear what Mrs. Grayson is saying.
How could Mrs. Grayson improve the way she grades?
- Nothing/idk (29)
- make it easier to understand if its a 3 or 4
- If she did like 4/4 instead of 4/0 that way the percent is 100 instead of 0
- maybe switch to normal grading
- refer to the previous remarks about homework/review
- It’s probably out of Mrs. Grayson control but making homework packets more points
- I know you have no control over it but the standards translating into grades is weird
How could Mrs. Grayson improve how she uses Canvas?
How could Mrs. Grayson improve how she starts class?
- nothing/idk (25)
- play some music (2)
- Not the biggest fan of the warm up guessing game
- Switching the opener each week.
- changing the greeting instead of only using the same one
- Talk about the homework at the beginning still makes kids remember it better and remind at the end.
- Maybe a song would be nice. Or just like more than just the small activities people don’t want to do because it involves talking to people.
- more brain games
- Maybe by starting with a Canvas warm up thats fun to do and engages students by giving them a task to do. Mrs Gully uses this method and it really works for getting students engaged.
- I like the warm ups but maybe more variety.
How could Mrs. Grayson improve how she ends class?
- nothing/idk (29)
- give the students five minutes of end of class free time
- Talk about anything coming up that’s due like quizzes, tests, homework.
- Maybe if we did like an end warmup.
- maybe do like a cool down like we do a warmup instead of just having us leave
- maybe give us a few minutes for homework at the end just in case we have any questions
- By giving us more time to pack up and settle so we’re prepared for our next class.
How could Mrs. Grayson improve how she does notes?
- nothing/idk (26)
- maybe do more questions.
- I don’t like writing the esstential questions
- Play relaxing music
- just make sure it is a clear step by step process.
- Just zoom in, or maybe your new students will actually wear there contacts.
- make sure everyone is focused and not distracted
- More example questions to either perform in class or just to do.
- Continue with different colors
- Having kids participate more
What is something one of your other teachers does (or has done) that Mrs. Grayson should also do?
- nothing/idk (24)
- play a math blookit or game more often.
- my other teachers are boring
- only change seats ever unit
- The homework/review thing.
- She’s fine as she is. She has her own uniqueness
- Maybe some more games
- print off notes
- Like what I said about how Mrs. Gully has a packet for warm ups so that it gives you a task to do for credit so it can improve your formative side to help boost grades so it’s not just homework.
- throw candy to students who participate
- do more student activities
- at the start of each class on the board there is a task and you have 5 minutes to do it. Something short and usually aligns with what we’ve learned from yesterday to re engage. It’s Mrs. Hamilton the World Studies teacher if you want to ask her about it..
What is something one of your other teachers does (or has done) that Mrs. Grayson should NEVER consider doing?
- nothing/idk (23)
- Making people solve answers in front of the class, it’s very uncomfortable for students and can be embarrassing
- Make fun of the student and make them uncomfortable
- DO NOT be condescending
- never pick on kids and tell them to hurry up and finish their work
- During test phones should not be away into those calculator pockets
- I hate when teachers dont let you walk around or stand up if you have too
- tkae away my phone
- Favoring students
- A few of my teachers randomly call on students and i know a lot of us dont like that
- Sudden pop quizzes or multiple tests throughout a week because this makes it very stressful on students, more than one homework packets per week, so really less is more. Having certain packets for those activities so everything has a purpose and you don’t just have a whole bunch of random papers. EX: homework packet, warm up packet, notes packet per unit.
- Not answering my questions
- Not give notes
- Leave a lot of home work and having us do DBQS
What letter grade would you give Mrs. Grayson as a teacher?

A: 33; B: 2; C: 1
Anything else you want to say to Mrs. Grayson?

- We’ll miss you dearly. You were one of my favorite math teachers.
- You’ll be a great mother 😁
- Mrs. Grayson, I want to thank you so much for making me enjoy and not despise a math class. You’ve helped change my POV on Algebra 2/Trig. I failed it last year, so I was hoping I would be able to crawl out alive, but you have helped me keep a consistent B or A in this class. And you’re also very nice and funny. Everything you do and have done is great. Anyone that has an issue with how you teach doesn’t make sense in anyway at all to me. Have a great spring break, and I hope you have a great summer as well. I’ll never forget what you’ve done for me Mrs. Grayson Sincerely, E.J.
- you’re such a good teacher i loved your class and u made me understand math really well. I haven’t done this good in math since 6th grade , i hope u have fun being a mom.
- That A i put for your grade, pretend theres a plus behind it.
- i will miss you so much and good luck to you and ur baby you will be the BEST MOTHER
- A+ 🙂
- I hope you have fun with your new baby and that you guys stay healthy! I hope you have a great summer!
- Dear Mrs. Grayson, I am so excited for you to have your baby girl! I hope both you and your baby are healthy! When you come back next year, I would love to know her name. I bet that your baby will be as sweet and caring as you are. I would also like to thank you for being an amazing math teacher for my junior year. I truly learned a lot these past two semesters. Thank you for helping me grow further in my educational career as a student! Congrats for becoming a mom!!! Have a nice spring break! See you next year when I am a senior! Jada 🙂
- Thank you so much for all you do as a teacher. You are genuinely one of the best teachers I’ve ever had and for the first time in my life I actually enjoy a math class.
- Remember to tell us the name of your baby!
- I really like how she doesn’t give up on students and how for tests she doesn’t count the whole problem if something is wrong, she still gives partial points. Mrs. Grayson is probably one of the best math teachers I’ve had in these past years.
- have a great rest of your year!
- Ms Grayson is a great teacher
- Nope, -Justin if you didn’t know.
J’espère que je peux être bonne prof et mère en même temps.
