Well, what would happen if a plane dropped you in the middle of the Sahara Desert and you picked up a single grain of sand with tweezers and moved it one millimeter?” I said, “I'd probably die of dehydration.” He said, “I just mean right then, when you moved that single grain of sand. What would that mean?” I said, “I dunno, what?” He said, “Think about it.” I thought about it. “I guess I would have moved one grain of sand.” “Which would mean?” “Which would mean I moved a grain of sand?” “Which would mean you changed the Sahara.” “So?” “So? So the Sahara is a vast desert. And it has existed for millions of years. And you changed it!” “That's true!” I said, sitting up. “I changed the Sahara!” “Which means?” he said. “What? Tell me.” “Well I'm not talking about painting the Mona Lisa or curing cancer. I'm just talking about moving that one grain of sand one millimeter.” “Yeah?” “If you hadn't done it, human history would have been one way…” “Uh-huh?” “But you did do it, so…?” I stood on the bed, pointing one of my fingers at the fake stars, and screamed: “I changed the course of human history!” “That's right.” “I changed the universe!” “You did.” “I'm God!” “You're an atheist.” “I don't exist!” I feel back onto the bed, into his arms, and we cracked up together.
I just finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer and it is by far the best book i've ever read in my entire life. Better than Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Im not saying its Literary Power is greater than those two classics but ELIC changed my outlook on life so much.
So for the purpose of this entry im going to admit that I have in fact watched Mtv's excuse for television, Laguna Beach. Im not going to lie, its entertaining but every fiber in my body knows its wrong to watch it so I dont...but recently (as in two days ago) The Daily Show ran part two of their series "The Daily Show's Laguna Beach: The Real, Real Orange County". They got it spot on...the angles, the cineamatography, the music, and finally the content. It was so perfect and so I thought I might share because it definitely made my day.
So guys if you do not know already...I went to the John Mayer concert on this Saturday...and it was completely amazing! Here is a picture diary of some of the events that took place while making our way to John Mayer and finally reacing our destination!
So everyone knows I am a book and movie feign, when I have time...and I haven't had that much time this year but I still thought this was a good idea. I am going to try to watch 100 new movies this year and read 50 books (For the books I can re-read old ones).
So here is what i've accomplished so far this year:
So I have not updated in quite a while but I have been quite busy...and I got a myspace which took up some time for a while but now im back to the good ole' livejournal to bring you guys my favorites of '06.
Entertainment Weekly had a Best in '06 guide but I thought it was completely wrong and therefore made me want to make my own so here we go:
"Interrogator: Very well. Escort Ms. Hammond back to her cell. Arrange a detail of six men and take her out behind the chemical shed and shoot her. Guard: It's time. Evey Hammond: I'm ready. Guard: Look all they want is one little piece of information, just give them something, anything. Evey Hammond: Thank you, but I'd rather die behind the chemical sheds. Guard: Then you have no fear any more. You're completely free."-V for Vendetta
So wow...I have'nt updated in a while...i've been quite busy. So starting last weekend Alicia and Pranu came over on Friday and we had girl talk and it was nice. Its nice sometimes to hang out with someone besides Michelle lol...Then on Saturday me and Michelle "volunteered" at fishhawk but they ended up sending us home so yeah we went home and watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer...It was great! And then Ben came over to see my bird and ate dinner with the fam and then I babysat...it was a nice busy weekend! Then on Tuesday I went trick or treating...but it really isnt the same as you get older. I dont understand why people are so mean about it. So many people were rude to us and kept probing us on why we are trick or treating...oh well.
Then this weekend Max, Nick, Pranu and Alicia came over on Friday and we watched L.A. Confidential and it was a lot of fun. And then Pranu and Alicia slept over and we had girl talk again...which was again nice. Alicia is the funniest girl I know...I giggled the ENTIRE night...im sure I got annoying...but seriously when am I not? Then the next morning me and Michelle volunteered again and we gave out ice tea and Camp Rotary. It was fun but people were so mean again. We had to ask them not to go into the exit and yet they either 1. ignored us, 2. saw us and then ignored our wishes, 3. gave and excuse and then walked over to the entrance or 4. Said thank you and did not get upset with us. 4 didnt happen too often. Well afterwards Michelle, Polo and I went to Cherry's for lunch and then me and Polo played Final Fantasy 12!!!! It was so fun...Polo is the coolest girl ever for playing it with me. And then today I did homework...I thought I would lounge around but then me and Ben got into a "discussion" which ended up with me putting a slideshow of Ben and Chris on my myspace and then Ben missed Chris and then Ben and Chris came over to play Final Fantasy with me. Dont ask me how these things connect together...they just do. lol.
So yeah I got a myspace which is odd...but im dealing with it! And I bought Final Fantasy 12...which is hard so far...well the battle system is killing me but besides that it isnt like amazingly difficult.
So im sitting here studying APUSH...and I just discovered the most neatest thing I have encountered today! So I guess one day in APUSH I left the room to go get a volunteer award application thingy and so I missed like 20 minutes of lecture. And during said lecture they talked about the Black Hawk War...and I copied someone elses notes for the time...so I was studying and I saw it and then I was like isnt there a Sufjan Stevens song entitled The Black Hawk War...and sure enough!
The Black Hawk War or, How to Demolish an Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or, We Apologize for the Inconvenience but You're Going to Have to Leave Now, or, 'I Have Fought the Big Knives and Will Continue To Fight...
ITS LIKE EVERYTHING I WROTE DOWN IN MY NOTES IN A SONG TITLE! I swear that Sufjan Stevens is the only history teacher anybody needs!
"Sam Foster: [gesturing to the surrounding paintings on display] Are any of these yours? Henry Letham: Ouch. Sam Foster: What? Henry Letham: Well... these are bad, Sam."-Stay
So today was a crazy crazy day. It was so much fun...I love going to Share Florida...so I'll give you the highlights: -Ben going to Share for Ben and Joaquin...and he listened to Modest Mouse for Joaquin...(Ben is awesome but I wish Joaquin could have actually been there) -My counting mishap...im never allowed to count again -Learning about MOD which im pretty sure I still dont know what it is -Me and Michelle acting out scenes from Drive Me Crazy and Veronica Mars -Ben and me deciding my name should be Sufjan Sigmon bc I held the swordy thingy and it only makes sense. (Sufjan Sigmon almost sounds way cooler than Sufjan Stevens but Sufjan Stevens is by all means cooler than me...if we ever got married I would take his first name not his last :) ) -Listening to Disney Music and Harry and the Potters -I learned about my family tree...Michelle is my mom and Ryan is my Dad but somehow (I still dont know how) Me and Ryan have a child...and it is Ryan lol But it isnt exactly incest bc Michelle adopted me...and im pretty sure Michelle and Ryan are monarchs but we didnt exactly work that part out...we were too worried about the part of me and Ryan have a baby Ryan...Doesnt make sense -Racing the Guys home and blasting our Disney music at them...I totally won...but they dont feel like admitting it!
I watched this really awesome movie the other day called Stay...Ryan Gosling, Naomi Watts, and Ewan McGregor were in it. Ewan McGregor isnt a very good actor but the movie was really really good. It was visually probably the best movie I've ever seen...I absolutely loved it. Slightly confusing though...I has to ask the wikipedia Gods what the movie was about once I saw the final scene. Its kind of like Memento meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Its best watched backwards...but I wouldnt recommend it bc it kills all the suspense. It will probably confuse the Heck out of you but if your like me...you dont mind being confused.
I also just finished my 2nd book (I actually finished it about a week ago) called How to be Lost by Seymour Eyre Ward. It was such a good book I definitely reccommend it. Its pretty much about a girl who goes missing when she is five...and how her family copes with it so many years later. But the story unfolds from three different perspectives...its very cool.
Also Im not sure if I mentioned this before but im trying to read a book a week...so that was my 2nd one...and if I stay on schedule I should be done with my 3rd on Thursday. I dont believe I will though...Im reading Emma by Jane Austen. A good book so far...a little boring...and very long but I am enjoying reading it.
"Ernesto Guevara de la Serna: How is it possible to feel nostalgia for a world I never knew?"-The Motorcycle Diaries
So yesterday me and Michelle had a little party of our own. I brought a cookie cake that I made...and we watched BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER! Yeah! Michelle is the best bff4l ever! I dont know what I would do without her!
Well yesterday as well I went out to dinner with the fam and after dinner my sis wanted to go get a Beta fish. So we went into Petsmart to look...but we couldnt find any so my sister started looking at the birds...and we really liked the finches. My mom was like okay we can get a bird...and I was like WHAT THE FRACK? Really? My sister has begged my mom for a bird for like 5 years, I never really cared for birds that much. But we wanted to check PetCo first so we went over there...and they had finches but they were a little boring. But my mom wanted to get the 411 on Finches Vs. Cockatils vs. Parakeets. So we called over one of the pet people and she talked us out of the finches...but we did seem to like the Cockatils. But then my mom was like this one is so sweet (pointing at a 3000 dollar bird). So said Pet person took out 3000 dollar bird and it was called a Black-Headed Caique. And we fell in love with him...he was so sweet. Well he was on sale for 1200 dollars but my mom wanted to check online to find out all about them and to find out if we can get a better deal. Well sure enough they only cost 700 dollars (I know that is still a lot). But I think we have convinced my mom to get us a bird. We are pretty much between a Conure and a Caique. I mean we still might not get a bird. My mom is scared at the fact the bird is probably going to live longer than her. They live about 35 years. Also my dogs are probably not going to be too happy with us. So we might start out with a cheaper and short-life span bird, such as the Cockatil or Parakeet. Not sure...im excited though! I doubt this is going to happen but It would be fun if it did. Were getting ready to leave to look at two other pet stores that have Caiques and Conures...so I might have a bird at the end of the day or might not!
"Finch: Who was he? Evey Hammond: He was Edmond Dantés... and he was my father. And my mother... my brother... my friend. He was you... and me. He was all of us."-V for Vendetta
So exams are over and I still dont know what I got on my physics exam! AHHHHHHHH! Oh well...whatever it is...I can no longer control it.
So on Friday Michelle came over for a bit to "watch grey's anatomy" but not much watching went on...we had a girl talk. Which was actually nice and im not going to put it down...bc it did make me feel better!
I also watched Brick for the 5th time in 4 weeks and watched V for Vendetta for the second time. I forgot how much I loved that movie. I know Michelle that you dont like Natalie Portman but I think she is amazing and definitely makes that movie. I love that movie so much. I also watched The Motorcycle Diaries. I've seen parts of that movie before but never in whole. I really really loved it. Despite the Gael beautifullness It was a very good movie and Gael is a very good actor. Im going to watch it again hopefully tonight, bc they talk really fast and I didnt catch everything lol.
I also finished one of the four books I got at the library on Thursday. It was called Sweet Dream Baby by Sterling Watson. If you look at it in whole it was a good book...it just got so weird at the end. Its pretty much about a 12 year old boy Travis and his 16 year old Aunt Delia. There relationship is so great and heartfelt but it just turns weird. Aunt Delia is a really great character though and and I loved reading her dialogue. It was slightly predictable for me though. It really reminded me of The King which stars Gael also...and he speaks english in this one. After watching The King and reading Sweet Dream Baby It just kind of spoils the first 3/4ths of the storyline. It makes me feel like I wasted all my time watching the first part of the movie or reading the first part of the book. But none the less I recommend both if you dont mind incest :)!
"Jack: Have you ever had sex with a prostitute? Sawyer: What's that got to do with anything? Jack: Is that a yes? Sawyer: [begrudgingly] Yes. Jack: Have you ever contracted a sexually transmitted disease? [Sawyer glares at him] Jack: I'll take that as another yes. When was the last outbreak? Sawyer: Go to hell, doc. [leaves] Kate: I know he deserved it, but... Jack: He needs glasses."-LOST
When I first heard about the Mark Foley thing I was like hmmmm...how many days will it take for the Republicans to blame the Democrats for Mark Foley being an online sexual predator. Answer...1 and a half days. Comforting for me?...not really, but you gotta hope that winning weasel charm coupled with Fox News's "reporting" can get this country as a whole out of a big problem one day...one can only can hope.
Sometimes I HATE Lost...you think you know whats going on...you think you have at least the synapsis of the show...and then they have a Season Premiere and all those good feelings you got from knowning are just ripped out of your hands...What the Frack Damon and Carlton? Why must you do this? I guess it makes the show good...it does bc Im always like ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh why? But I think one of the main things the show lacks is good actors...the only ones that are decent to me are Jack and Locke. Sawyer's charm has become predictable and old...and last season of Lost was a let down but I know they can make it up if they really try and I think the Season Premiere has left those writers with a good storyline.
Veronica Mars was awesome as always, quotes include: The rather versatile "What the Frack" or my personal favorite "Veronica:Where are you from Brigadoon? Piz: No Portland, well a little town outside of Portland called Beaverton, real salt of the earth people, minivan in every driveway, chicken in every pot. Veronica: Where they dont ask retorical questions?" and Michelle's favorite "Yeah I just ignored all the spoiler alerts, which I know is kind of douchebaggy but..."
Tonight is The Office and Grey's Anatomy...although I probably wont stay up for Grey's but ill watch it tommorow after I get home from apbio!
P.S. Im in love with Piz...despite his awkward name!
"The Brain: Big time. See the Pin pipes it from the lowest scraper for Brad Bramish to sell, maybe. Ask any dope rat where their junk sprang and they'll say they scraped it from that, who scored it from this, who bought it off so, and after four or five connections the list always ends with The Pin. But I bet you, if you got every rat in town together and said "Show your hands" if any of them've actually seen The Pin, you'd get a crowd of full pockets. Brendan Frye: You think The Pin's just a tale to take whatever heat? The Brain: Hmm... So what's first? Brendan Frye: Show of hands." -Brick
So I have a cold...ah I am fond of reminisent memories of last year being sick for 3 months. It sucks...i've gone through about 500 tissues...think of how many trees i've killed. Tissues are made out of trees right? Im going to school though...bc then ill only have to take my physics exam...so word to the wise, on Tuesday, steer clear. I could be feeling better...but knowing my luck probably not.
So I watched Brick again yesterday...such an amazing movie once you watch it more than once. It is my new life goal to speak in Brick slang...I just have to practice.
So about one and a half years ago I read a book called "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay about a Miami Dade Blood spatter speacialist that is "also a sociopathic serial killer whose "Dark Passenger" drives him to commit the occasional dismemberment." (From Amazon.com). But on the up side he only kills people he thinks deserves it. A very good book that I recommend to all. Your really in tune with Dexter and his feelings and even though he is a serial killer you are rooting for him for whatever reason. Well Showtime now has a new TV show called "Dexter" which is about Dexter from this book and is played by Micheal C. Hall from Six Feet Under. I think it is going to be so awesome...I wish I had Showtime...but me and my mom already decided we are going to have to buy this TV show on dvd. Im so excited for it though!
So I dont think i've found my favorite movie yet...but I think i've found my favorite scene...I suggest that everyone in the world should see Half Nelson. It might not be everyone's favorite movie...but I seriously have never been so moved by a movie in my entire life. I dont want to spoil anybody but my favorite scene so far in my movie watching career is in this movie...and Broken Social Scene's Shampoo Suicide is playing...and there isnt any dialogue but I dont know its amazing. A lot of people didnt like the way this movie was shot...for me its Manic meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It isnt shakey scarey like Manic is but it has that handheld camera quality to it. Amazing movie....
Wow so almost all the TV shows started this week...I was disappointed by Grey's Anatomy nothing really happened. And I was really disappointed by CSI. I was slightly disappointed with The Office...and even though things didnt turn out as I had hoped, it was still hilarious. I didnt know Ed Helms was going to be in the first episode...it makes me think though that there is still Pam/Jim hope bc Ed Helms is only a guest star...
So yeah disappointing tv week...Veronica Mars better be awesome...I think Lost will be good bc they like to open with a big bang.
"Dr. Meredith Grey: At some point, you have to make a decision. Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. So, you can waste your lives drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them. But there are some lines... that are way too dangerous to cross."-Grey's Anatomy
Monday kicks off the week of tv Season premieres...can I handle it? Probably not lol. Im most excited for The Office, atleast for this week. I think CSI might lose its reign as number one watched drama. Grey's Anatomy might beat it out. Last season of CSI wasnt very good so they really need to step it up, but then again I hated the season finale of Grey's Anatomy...so they both need to :)
So I spent this whole morning looking at New College of Florida...and I really love it. Or what I can see of it that is. It only has like 700 students and the campus is gorgeous and it is really really liberal minded. Its really tough to get into but if I can bring up my SAT scores I have a really good chance. I dont know though if I want to go to a college that small. My second choice so far is probably UCF which is like 12 billion more people than New College. But ofcourse i've just started looking. I think going out of state is pretty much a no. But I love Sarasota where New College of Florida is...and its 45 minutes away from my family so its enough to where im separated but close enough where I can come home whenever I want. Looking at New College actually made me sort of excited for college...rather than deathly afraid.
"Michael: Attention everyone, hello! Yes, I just want you to know that this is not my decision but from here on out, we can no longer be friends. And when we talk about things here [the office], we must only discuss work associated things. And uh, you can consider this my retirement from comedy. And in the future if I want to say something funny, or witty, or do an impression I will no longer, ever, do any of those things. Jim: Does that include "That's what she said?" Michael: Mmm hmm, yes. Jim: Wow. That is really hard. [Michael almost says it] You really think you can go all day long? [Michael nearly bursts trying not to say it] Well, you always left me satisfied and smiling. Michael: That's what she said!"-The Office
So this morning my dad was on Fox and Friends for some baseball segement...im going to look past the fact that he was on Fox...but I just want to say I have the coolest dad in the world! I really do!
So today was Club Day. Interact went well...we have a lot of people but I felt like we got almost everything we wanted to do done. Yeah 4th period in my psych class with only like 8 people was a little crazy, slightly disturbing and extremely interesting.
So yeah The Office and Veronica Mars are definitely the most quotable series...so heres a Veronica Mars quote for you: Veronica: We marked your words before and they formed....this....like....completely...false...accusation. YIKES! I know!
And yeah thanks Michelle for making an entry dedicated to me and brick :)....Brick got 35 on EW's top 100 Highschool movies. So theres your proof all you non-believers. Brick is amazing!
P.S. The Wallking, I totally got your letter and im writing you back! It was amazing!
"Veronica: Madison, you have a little... [points to her nose] Madison: What, brown? Because I'm a brown noser? Veronica: No, glitter. [sing-song voice] Because you're a fairy princess!"-Veronica Mars
So my aunt left...which means the VM marathon is offically over. We got to episode 18 of the second season...so we didnt quite finish it. But it has made me want to refinish it even though I already have. I think I will this week...I mean its only 4 episodes. I forgot how much I liked Beaver...I mean Cassidy lol
So I have started watching season 2 of The Office and it is so great...I heart Jim seriously. And ofcourse Michael is hilarious.
I have listened to a butt load of music this week...132 Death Cab For Cutie Songs...that is a lot of Death Cab. I just started listening to them again so it was nice.
Also I got this cool new Brick Mood Theme...so now that I have cool pictures to go with my mood you will now know my mood at all livejournal entry times...creepy much? lol
"Jim Halpert: Because right now, this is a job. If I advance any higher, this would be my career. And if this were my career, I'd have to throw myself in front of a train"-The Office
So Jon won two emmys!!! Yay! Stephen didnt win any...but I will look past it. And The Office won best Comedy!!!!! I was really excited about that...the show makes me so happy. Not has happy as TDS and TCR do, but close. And 24 won best drama! I was slightly happy about this...I wanted Grey's Anatomy to win...but I mean Jack Bauer slightly rules the world so yeah...he deserved it. Kiefer definitely deserved it...but there was a part of me that wanted Peter Krause to win for Six Feet Under such an amazing show.
I was listening to Bob Dylan's Hurricane...such a good song...just thought I should say that. Also I found this new band called Black Bear...they are great! I cant find their cd anywhere though...not even Amazon...which scares me bc if its not on amazon.com...then truely its nowhere. But they have a song called "Black Bear" that is one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard...but dont tell Stephen Colbert I said that :)
And yeah im just going to say the word...Michelle....since im not allowed to have an entry without her named in it. We were totally going to have a VM marathon today or go see Pulse but no...they decided not to cancel school...sigh
"It's called Avian Flu, a fatal killer that, when lethal, can be deadly."-Rob Corddry-The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Michelle told me I needed to update my livejournal...and so I have. Yet im not sure if she would appreciate my Rob Corddry tribute post but toooooooooooooooo bad Michelle! lol. Seriously though Michelle is the coolest human being in the entire world and her+The Wallking+The Daily Show+The Colbert Report=My life. The coolest animal being unicorns by the way...if you were wondering! In the cut is the link to Rob Corddry's send off to himself as well as a few pictures...it was hilarious and im seriously going to miss him on the Daily Show...he was my 2nd favorite correspondent to Stephen Colbert. And im really sad hes leaving...but im sure hes not being payed very much...and hes very funny so I hope his show is successful. Speaking of TDS and TCR the Emmy's are on tonight and they better sweep the f-ing thing!
