Accessibility Statement

LA Climate Week is committed to working toward accessibility and inclusion across our movement.

We approach accessibility as a shared responsibility and an ongoing practice — not as a static checklist or a claim of perfection.

Our Approach

LA Climate Week is a grassroots, community-driven movement made up of many independently organized events, hosts, venues, and collaborators across the Los Angeles region.

Because of this distributed structure, accessibility at LA Climate Week is both a priority and a practice that varies by event, capacity, and context. Our role is to lead with an accessibility-first mindset, provide guidance and support to organizers, and be transparent about what we can — and cannot — guarantee.

Accessibility-First by Design

Accessibility is built into LA Climate Week’s standard event playbook and organizer guidance. From the earliest planning stages, we encourage hosts to consider access needs alongside programming, logistics, and outreach. When possible and appropriate, this includes consideration of:
  • Physical accessibility of venues
  • Clear communication about access features and limitations
  • Sensory, cognitive, and social accessibility
  • Language access, including interpretation or translation when feasible
  • Remote or hybrid participation options
We emphasize planning for access early, rather than treating accommodations as an afterthought.

A Distributed Reality

LA Climate Week does not centrally produce or control every event. Many events are independently hosted by community members, organizations, institutions, and partners.
As a result:

  • Accessibility features may vary by event
  • Not all accommodations can be provided in every setting
  • Resources, staffing, and venue constraints differ widely

We encourage hosts to be transparent about what they can and cannot offer, and we encourage participants to review event listings carefully and contact hosts directly when needed.

Our Commitment —
and Our Limits

We want to be clear and honest about where we are. We are not perfect in this work. We are learning alongside our community, and we take accessibility seriously even when resources are limited. When accommodations are requested, we do our best — within the constraints of capacity, funding, and volunteer support — to respond with care and respect. Accessibility is not a box to check. It is a relationship and a responsibility that evolves over time.

Accessibility in Practice

What accessibility standards does LA Climate Week follow?
As a grassroots movement, LA Climate Week does not currently operate under a single formal accessibility certification. We follow an accessibility-first mindset informed by best practices, lived experience, and ongoing learning.
Event hosts are primarily responsible for accessibility at their events. LA Climate Week provides guidance and support but does not manage all venues or logistics directly.
Where possible, yes. We encourage you to contact event hosts directly using the information provided in event listings. For LACW-hosted events, you may also reach out through our central contact channels.
We understand this can be frustrating. When an accommodation cannot be provided, we aim to communicate clearly and respectfully and to explore alternatives where feasible.

Help Us Learn and Improve

Accessibility is a shared learning process. If you encounter barriers, have suggestions, or want to share resources, we welcome thoughtful feedback.
