WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

BUILDING TOMORROW'S WORKFORCE TODAY

At KCHBA, we are taking meaningful steps to address the labor shortage facing the residential construction industry. Through our Workforce Development Committee, we focus on building a strong pipeline of talent by connecting with local shop classes, career centers and community colleges throughout the Kansas City region.

FROM CLASSROOM TO CAREER FIELD

To boost engagement and make our efforts more accessible, KCHBA offers school districts a flexible, a la carte menu of programs. This allows each district to tailor their experience based on specific needs and capacity. By creating hands-on learning opportunities and connecting students with industry professionals, we help prepare future builders and strengthen the workforce.

SCHOLARSHIPS

KCHBA offers scholarships to help students enter the skilled trades and overcome financial barriers. Apply for a Career Ready or Scholastic Scholarship to support your path forward.

GRANTS

The Home Builders Charitable Foundation offers grants for classroom projects that benefit students and the community. Funded by KCHBA member contributions, requests are reviewed each spring and fall. Want to apply? Submit a grant request.

FOUNDATIONS FOR THE FUTURE WEEK

Foundations for the Future Week highlights student achievement and hands-on learning through events like KC MADE and the Parade of Playhouses, ending with an awards ceremony that builds connections to the homebuilding industry.

PARADE OF HOMES STUDENT TOURS

KCHBA hosts the second largest Parade of Homes in the country, showcasing the latest in residential design, innovation and craftsmanship. As part of this programming, attendees also gain access to educational content that explores the homebuilding process, covering everything from laying a solid foundation to selecting the final finishes that make a house a home.

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY BOOK

This activity book for elementary-age children is designed to keep young ones engaged while showing why it’s cool to have a job in the skilled trades. Through coloring pages and interactive exercises, kids can learn why careers in construction and homebuilding are creative and rewarding. KCHBA thanks the Des Moines, Iowa, Women in Professional Building Group for sharing their activity book with us.

TEACHER RESOURCES

At KCHBA, we believe empowering teachers is essential to building the next generation of skilled trade professionals. Our programs bridge the gap between the classroom and the jobsite with scholarships for educators, networking events with industry professionals and access to experts who can mentor or speak about careers in residential construction.
