KC MADE
EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF SKILLED TRADES PROFESSIONALS
The KC Manufacturing and Design Expo is an annual competition that showcases the talent and creativity of high school students (grades 9–12) enrolled in construction and manufacturing programs across the Kansas City region. Designed to inspire the next generation of skilled professionals, the expo encourages students to apply their technical knowledge, craftsmanship and problem-solving abilities in a real-world setting.
DESIGNED AND BUILT BY STUDENTS
One of the unique aspects of the competition is its open-ended project scope. Participants have the freedom to design and build anything from a fully constructed tiny house to a custom dining room table, and everything in between. This flexibility allows students to explore their interests, challenge their skills and present innovative ideas that reflect both form and function.
KC MADE MISSION
KCHBA hosts the KC MADE competition as part of its workforce development initiative, launched in response to the skilled labor shortage in the home-building industry. The program promotes careers in residential construction by highlighting trade opportunities, the importance of soft skills and stronger connections between education and industry stakeholders.
