ISPD Fellowship Program

🎯 Program Aim

The ISPD Fellowship Program is designed to promote Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) by supporting healthcare professionals in enhancing their knowledge and expertise. Fellows will receive hands-on training at established PD centres for up to 3 months.

✅ Eligibility

🧍‍♂️ Individual Fellowship

• Who: One doctor or one nurse
• Duration: 6 weeks to 3 months
• Funding: Up to $5,000 USD
• Training Start: Within 12 months of the award
• Delays: Must be pre-approved by ISPD

👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Team Fellowship (Doctor-Nurse Team)

NEW Initiative: Strengthen PD Programs through Joint Training

• Who: One doctor + one nurse from the same institution
• Duration: 6–8 weeks
• Funding: Up to $9,000 USD (per team)
• Application: Requires separate team application form and combined documents
• Goal: Lay strong foundations for PD growth at your home institution

📝 Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on:

• Clarity and merit of objectives
• Suitability of the training centre
• Quality of the training plan
• Strategy for PD development in home institution
• Geographic diversity
• Priority to developing countries and Team applications

🔍 Fellowship Priorities

• Preference for Doctor-Nurse Teams
• Training at PD Reference Centres in the applicant’s region or country
• Applications must include a clear PD implementation plan

When selecting your host centre, consider:

• Compatibility with your institution’s practices
• Language of instruction
• Program quality & training objectives
• Accessibility, visas, and accommodation
• Local licensing or fee requirements for hands-on training

Required Documents:

Individual

Individual Application

A short-term training opportunity (6 weeks–3 months) with funding up to $5,000 USD. Fellows must begin training within 12 months, with any delays requiring ISPD approval.

Team

Team Application

A new initiative supporting one doctor and one nurse from the same institution for 6–8 weeks of joint training. Teams can receive up to $9,000 USD to build strong foundations for PD program growth.

📌 Training must begin within 12 months of the award. Request approval for any delays.

✅ Post-Fellowship Requirements

All fellowship recipients must submit a final report within 3 months of completing training. This report should include:

• Details of the ISPD Fellowship
  • Name of the ISPD Fellow
  • Country of Origin
  • Dates of the training
  • Name of the training center
  • Country of the training center
  • Name of ISPD Fellowship trainer
  • ISPD Fellowship call (when did you get your Fellowship approved)
• Description of the activities you performed during your training periods
• Summary of the skills and competencies you earned during the training
• How you plan to implement what you have learned in your home hospital

Usually, reports are 2-3 pages long and may include 1-2 pictures (with the authorization of patients involved).

• (For Teams) Joint report including both the doctor’s and nurse’s perspectives
