BBL® HERO™ by Sciton is the gold standard in broadband light energy. This innovative technology delivers a unique range of light therapy to target a variety of issues including sun damage, age spots, acne, vascular irregularities (broken capillaries, rosacea) and effectively provides a more refreshed, rejuvenated and youthful appearance. The device utilizes HERO™ technology to perform faster body treatments.
During treatment, you should feel minimal to no discomfort as your provider gently glides the BBL handpiece across the skin. A true sapphire on the end of the applicator will keep the skin cool and comfortable. After the treatment, most patients will feel warm for an additional 30 to 60 minutes.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH BBL?
BBL is most commonly done on the face, neck, chest, sun exposed areas of the body, along with areas for acne.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BBL HERO AND THE ORIGINAL BBL?
BBL HERO is capable of emitting high-energy broadband light at shorter pulse widths and faster repetition rates than BBL. With twice the cooling capacity of BBL, BBL HERO effortlessly maintains the desired sapphire chill plate temperate throughout treatment – even at maximum output. With BBL HERO, you can safely treat up to four times faster than is possible with BBL.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Visible results can be seen within 1 week post treatment, some as early as immediately.
How long do results last?
Your body’s natural healing process of replacing damaged cells with new cells will begin within days to weeks following treatment, resulting in revitalized skin that will last up to 3 months.
HOw many treatments do I need?
You can expect results in as little as one treatment. Best results are typically seen with the following treatment plan of 3 treatments, every 4 weeks for corrective, and 1-2 per year for maintenance.
Can BBL treat all skin types?
Skin Types 1-5 (using the Fitzpatrick scale) can be safely treated.
How long is the treatment?
Body areas can be treated in as little as 3 minutes with HERO – BBL’s High Energy Rapid Output.
Does BBL hurt?
BBL is a comfortable treatment with no discomfort thanks to the device’s ComfortCool technology that keeps the skin cool and comfortable.
What is the downtime?
Treatment requires minimal downtime, so you can return to your daily routine almost immediately after your appointment. You will notice darkening of pigment within 5 days post treatment. Redness and swelling are normal, depending on treatment parameters.
What is the post treatment care?
Keep the area well hydrated and out of the sun, using an SPF 30+ with zinc or titanium. Avoid excessive heat, physical activity, and makeup application for at least 2 days. Avoid any skin irritants for 5-7 days. Allow darkened pigment spots to flake off naturally for best results and don’t pick or exfoliate. Bruising and swelling over the treated areas may be seen.
Who should not get BBL?
You should not get BBL if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, recent Accutane/isotretinoin use, or have certain medical disorders like melasma and melanoma.

BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT
- Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.
- No sun-tanning or artificial tans 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Includes sun exposure, spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, etc.
- Some medications or supplements may increase the risk of bruising. Consult with your provider.
- Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, peels, etc.)
- Avoid any aesthetic procedures (including injectables) 1-2 weeks prior to treatment.
- History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment.
- Consult with your provider if you are on any type of photosensitizing medications, as it will increase your sensitivity to BBL.
- Includes but not limited to retinoids, hydroquinone, antibiotics, tetracycline, doxycycline, isotretinoin/Accutane.
- Notify INTERLOCKS of any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
- Avoid sun exposure for 2-4 weeks and use a broad spectrum mineral sunscreen SPF 30+ (with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) to protect your skin and prevent further sun damage. This will provide protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
- Redness, swelling, and bruising may occur and will resolve with time.
- An initial ‘flare up’ of acne is common after the first or second sessions, then subsides at subsequent visits.
- Treated pigment will darken (brown to black) within 24-72 hours, leaving a ‘coffee-ground’ appearance and texture.
- Allow spots to flake off naturally for best results – do not pick, scrub, or exfoliate.
- Treated pigment will exfoliate off the face in approximately 1 week.
- Treated pigment will exfoliate off the body in approximately 2-3 weeks.
- Some areas may leave a ‘bug bite look’ and usually resolves in 1-2 days.
- Avoid excessive heat – hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, etc. for 1-2 days.
- Avoid skin irritants 5-7 days post-treatment.
- Products containing retinoids, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.
- Notify INTERLOCKS of any concerns (blistering, excessive redness/swelling, etc.).
CONTRAINDICATIONS / CONCERNS PRIOR TO TREATMENT
- Unprotected sun exposure, artificial/sunless tanners, and tanning beds used 2-4 weeks prior treatment.
- Currently pregnant or breastfeeding. If I should become pregnant during this course of treatment, I will let my provider at INTERLOCKS know.
- History of Melanoma
- Keloid or hypertrophic scarring
- Recent cancer, chromotherapy, or radiation
- Photosensitizing medications (antibiotics, hydroquinone, topical retinoids, etc.)
- Accutane/isotretinoin use within the past 6 months
- Tattoo/permanent makeup in the treatment area
- Light induced seizures
- Melasma can worsen with the use of BBL. Consult with your provider as other treatment options may be better for you
