Quire a while ago now, back in the spring. Nipped into the wood to get out of the wind and found Camelias to draw.
Sketch Book Page – Tulips at Ness 2017
Tulips drawn at Ness Botanic Gardens. They had a beautiful display of Tulips for their competition. Mixing the pink was the most challenging part, as the closest I have in my current palette is Alizarin Crimson. I’ve been able to test out a couple of pinks now, so I might swap out my white (which I’ve barely used) for Permanent Rose or Quinacridone Magneta instead.

Church and Dogs

Went to see a small art show set up in the hall near Pulford Church, all local artists (Including my water colour teacher). Afterwards, Mum and me dropped in on my Nan. Since the dog was sitting still, it was fair game for drawing.
Cactus and Spider Monkeys

The Cactus house was hot, so hot that I puttered outside for a moment halfway through this one. Then came back for more.
The Spider monkeys came out! Used a brush pen to catch as much of the overall shape as was possible.
Iris and Birds

The Irises were out and moving slower than anything else in the vicinity… Started drawing 😀
The birds were out, and moving faster than anything else in the vicinity… Challenge accepted, started drawing XD
Cheetah Sketches and Crow

Cheetahs, like all cats, keep moving. Even when sitting down, their heads are spinning this way and that. A challenge to draw, and made me wish I had my camera at hand. (On drawing days I leave it behind, so I Draw to record what I see).
The crow is from photo reference and took up residence on the page earlier in the year. I wanted to see if drawing throughout the book first would deal with blank page art block. It was annoying starting on this spread with fast sketches. Because I had a nice, from reference drawing already in place. Though I do like it now it’s finished, I find I prefer pages with scraps of colour all over to nuke the white. When my sketchbook is already messy, it’s easier to put pen or pencil to the page.
Orange Flowers

Drawn on a scorching hot day at Chester Zoo. The flowers were almost exactly the same colour as Cadmium Orange* one of my favorite colours in my paintbox. After baking for a while drawing this, I went to sketch Cheetahs in the shade.

Creature sketches for collab with ShadowHawkDragon. I was rooting for underwater on the vote and the Egypt/Desert topics won. The Sphinx and Phoenix have been fully animated as battlers. Keep an eye on ShadowHawkDragon’s main thread to see any more of the designs are picked.
Here are the finished static images, along with the ice phoenix variation.
