About Us

We are the charity creating a cat friendly world.

Since 1958 International Cat Care (iCatCare) has been advancing the welfare of cats by challenging the status quo, sharing research and knowledge on all things cats, while ensuring the most informed feline subject matter authorities from across the world are part of our expert panels and are driving forward change with us. We believe in a world where every cat’s life is as good as it can be.

We achieve this by providing cat owners, veterinary professionals and those that live and work with cats the expert information, support and guidance they need to care for them. We tackle the key issues and concerns impacting cats in the UK and globally and support other organisations working to improve the lives of all cats worldwide.

We develop and disseminate knowledge on cats to owners, vets, breeders and anyone else with an interest in cats. Millions of cat owners access advice and information from our website; vets and vet nurses worldwide use our training and resources to improve the care of cats.

In this way, it is estimated that we touch the lives of over 25 million cats worldwide annually.

Our international reputation and credibility are underpinned by our veterinary society, which provides world leading research through our renowned journal, The Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery and drives improvement in standards through our Cat Friendly Clinic Scheme.

Over 4,000 clinics, in 72 countries worldwide, have been accredited as Cat Friendly Clinics for their high standards and cat friendly ethos and we have over 20,000 members and partners working to make the world more cat friendly.

What we do

As people, we have a moral responsibility to protect cats from suffering, both physically and mentally. It’s hard to overstate the lack of feline knowledge that faced the charity in its early days. Over the course of our history, we’ve built outstanding relationships with vets and vet nurses/technicians, boarding catteries, breeders, other charities, corporations, volunteers, owners and cat lovers and continue to work with them to improve the physical health, mental wellbeing and the lives of cats everywhere.

We are the only international charity entirely focused on the commission, collation and dissemination of knowledge, information and education in all matters relating to the health and wellbeing of cats worldwide.

We passionately believe this is the best way to have a significant impact on the welfare of cats everywhere.

Why we do it

It is our belief that every cat should have the best life it can possibly have; we know there are many core issues around the world that prevent this from being the situation today – so our work will continue for as long as we need to be here.

Education is essential in the drive to create a better life for all cats, everywhere.

Cat Friendly Principles

Our work is guided by seven Cat Friendly Principles; 3 focus on cats and 4 focus on people who have contact with cats. These principles help us work towards our vision of a cat friendly world.
