High Peaks Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award & John Irwin Award

The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award. This award celebrates schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On the school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools "exceed" expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and "meet or exceed" expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps.

The John Irwin Award .This award is given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time. High Peaks received an Exceeds Expectations rating on the Academic Achievement indicator of the School Performance Framework reflecting exceptional performance in Math, English Language Arts, and Science.

As a teacher in BVSD, I understand why smaller school sizes can sound appealing. Individual attention, close-knit communities, and familiarity are all positives. However, what often gets lost in the conversation is that very small schools come with significant challenges that directly affect the quality and consistency of education students receive.

Dear BVSD Families and Staff,

As you know, we are currently engaged in important planning for the future of Boulder Valley School District to respond to the pressures of declining enrollment. 

Before developing formal proposals for our schools , we are engaging our community. We are asking families, staff, and community members to share their values and priorities. 

Naturally, these conversations are sparking concerns for the future of individual schools. That reaction is understandable. Schools are deeply personal. They represent memories, relationships, and identity.

But if we focus only on preserving what exists today, we risk missing the opportunity to design something even stronger for tomorrow. 

Let us approach this moment thoughtfully, honestly, and courageously . . .

BVSD has experienced a district-wide increase in phishing attempts targeting students. “Phishing” is the practice of sending fraudulent emails with the aim of getting individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. Review tips from our IT team on how to best prepare your student to avoid these scams and learn about the new district process to prevent these attacks.

Two BVSD campuses will soon find themselves at the center of one of the world’s most celebrated film events. Boulder High School and Casey Middle School have been named among the 15 official venues that will host screenings and events when the Sundance Film Festival moves to Boulder in January 2027.

Boulder Valley School District is implementing a new four-part framework to enhance water conservation efforts, aiming to improve upon a 30% reduction in usage achieved since 2008. The priorities, including further reducing outdoor water use and improving leak detection and resolution, aim to mitigate the impact of rising costs and a changing climate.
