The challenge for schools today is to meet the needs of students for tomorrow – to ready our youth for living and working beyond high school in a world that will be different from both the present and past.

We believe the high school experience is a vital, transitional stage in students’ lives as they move from adolescence into adulthood. During this time, skills, attitudes, and aspirations for life are forming. Our mission at Broomfield High School is to further develop the intellectual, vocational, creative, aesthetic, and physical capabilities of our students. Our commitment is to: provide the best possible learning opportunities for students; help students develop the knowledge, skills, and responsibility needed for a changing world beyond the high school years; and assist students in their emotional and social growth. We believe that a quality staff is the key to providing quality education. We are dedicated to the development of professional and personal skills of all of our staff members. We encourage the cooperation and involvement of parents and other community members in our educational process

How declining enrollment is felt in the classroom: A teacher's perspective

As a teacher in BVSD, I understand why smaller school sizes can sound appealing. Individual attention, close-knit communities, and familiarity are all positives. However, what often gets lost in the conversation is that very small schools come with significant challenges that directly affect the quality and consistency of education students receive.

Let’s have the courage to imagine an even better school district

Dear BVSD Families and Staff,

As you know, we are currently engaged in important planning for the future of Boulder Valley School District to respond to the pressures of declining enrollment.

Before developing formal proposals for our schools , we are engaging our community. We are asking families, staff, and community members to share their values and priorities.

Naturally, these conversations are sparking concerns for the future of individual schools. That reaction is understandable. Schools are deeply personal. They represent memories, relationships, and identity.

But if we focus only on preserving what exists today, we risk missing the opportunity to design something even stronger for tomorrow.

Let us approach this moment thoughtfully, honestly, and courageously . . .

Latest enrollment data confirms need for holistic action
  • The third Annual Enrollment Trend report provides enrollment projections for each school. Aligning with overall district enrollment projections, most elementary schools will continue to decline over the next 5 years.
  • Due to the number and districtwide distribution of elementary schools with enrollment projected to dip below two classes per grade, BVSD will be looking at regional options for reshaping the district’s portfolio of schools.
  • District leadership and Board members have been holding teacher roundtables at elementary schools to hear from educators about the impacts of enrollment decline and what needs to be protected as BVSD considers how to reshape its portfolio of school buildings.
