Latest Update: June 2, 2026
The Elder Scrolls Online offers nearly infinite paths and play styles for customizing your character. A Character Build for ESO is simply a specific way of playing the game that you enjoy and find effective.

Best ESO Builds Overview
On this page, you will find our ESO Builds Database for every build category and playstyle in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)! This is a good resource for all ESO Builds, including Dragonknight Builds, Nightblade Builds, Necromancer Builds, Sorcerer Builds, Templar Builds, Warden Builds, and Arcanist Builds. Many even have video guides you can watch!
Builds in ESO require a lot of information, including the best skills, passives, race, champion points, sets and rotation. I’ve done my best to personally explain everything you could possibly need to know to make each of these builds work to their full potential and avoid confusion while also providing alternate options when possible. Most builds are viable for Solo Content and some have versions that can handle group mechanics and harder content.
It’s important to remember that in the end, the build you decide to play in ESO should be fun for you! So make sure to use these build guides only as a reference and make changes where you think it makes sense. Above all have fun!
Let’s get started by reviewing our most powerful builds for Elder Scrolls Online Classes.

ESO Class Builds
The Elder Scrolls Online currently features 7 classes that each offer their own unique identity and play-style, with a variety of class builds available for each. You can find our full list of class builds by using the links below.
To learn more about picking the best class for you, check out our ESO class guides.
ESO Arcanist Builds

The Arcanist is ESO’s seventh and newest class, recently released with the Necrom Chapter. Whether you want to play solo or in a group, the Arcanist is one of the best ESO classes for any type of build.
ESO Necromancer Builds

Necromancers are ESO’s masters of death, able to summon frightful pets and raise the dead.
ESO Warden Builds

Wardens in ESO are defenders of nature and masters of frost magic, making them great for an ESO Build focused on Animal Companions or even an Ice Mage!
ESO Dragonknight Builds

The Dragonknight is ESO’s version of an in-your-face, melee brawler, with a theme centered around – you guessed it – fighting like a dragon.
ESO Nightblade Builds

The Nightblade Class in ESO focuses on skills that apply big bursts of damage to enemies while also having some abilities that can be used as stealth and escape tools.
ESO Templar Builds

Templars in ESO have a theme similar to a Paladin or Cleric with great defensive and healing skills making them a fantastic class for Solo and Group play. Templars are one of the best class options for solo builds and healers.
ESO Sorcerer Builds

The ESO Sorcerer Class utilizes many powerful skill lines with a focus on Lightning abilities, summoning Pets, Speed, and Big Damage!

ESO Solo Builds
Players can Solo much of the content available in The Elder Scrolls Online, including Delves, Public Dungeons, World Bosses, and even some Group Dungeons. Soloing content meant for a group can be quite challenging, so having the right build can make a BIG difference.
Every Solo Build for ESO on this list combines everything you need to be successful in soloing even the most challenging encounters! I’ve worked hard to balance each build on this list completely, making sure it has strong damage, recovery, armor, buffs, healing, and utility to survive whatever the game can throw at it. Most importantly, these solo builds are fun! There’s nothing better than being able to do something that you shouldn’t because these builds are just that good!
Ready to test yourself against impossible odds? Check out our full list of Amazing Solo Builds here optimized for solo gameplay.

ESO Subclassing Builds
Subclasses in ESO adds another layer of depth, allowing your character to access skill lines from other classes once they hit level 50. Instead of rerolling a new character, you can now mix and match up to three skill lines from different classes on a single character.
In general, players start with a base class and can replace certain skill lines from their base class with those from other classes, allowing for even more customization at endgame. Want to be a summoner with pets from multiple classes? A dark paladin with holy and necromantic powers? A beastmaster that specializes in Poison and Fire? The wide range of subclass combinations means you can create almost any combination you can imagine! Browse our exciting ESO Subclassing Builds!

ESO Leveling Builds
Generally, leveling builds in ESO will tell you exactly the best skills and passives to focus on from Level 1 to Level 50, as well as provide several gear set options that can be easily obtained while you are leveling up to make your character even stronger!
Check out our ESO Leveling Builds for all classes.

ESO One Bar Builds
Are you tired of constantly bar-swapping and recasting skills in ESO? We’ve taken the best skills for each class and condensed them down into simple one-bar builds that are incredibly easy to play. No complicated rotations or trial gear needed, all the builds are here!
A one-bar setup is the best build for many players in The Elder Scrolls Online because they are extremely simple and easy to play. In most cases, these perform well in the type of content you want in the game, including Veteran dungeons and even trials, and with a lot less worry about your rotation or getting everything just right. This helps you focus more on your surroundings and be aware of what’s next in combat.
Check out our database of ESO One Bar Builds. These are updated for the most recent ESO patch.

ESO Builds FAQ
1. What is an ESO build?
An ESO build is a specific way of setting up your character covering skills, gear, champion points, passives, and race designed to perform well in a particular type of content or playstyle.
2. What is the best class for beginners in ESO?
Templar and Warden are the most beginner-friendly classes in ESO thanks to their self-sustain and straightforward skill kits, though any class can clear the vast majority of content once you understand the basics.
3. Does it matter which class I pick in ESO?
Your class shapes your playstyle and identity, but all seven classes are viable for solo play, group content, PvP, and endgame. Pick the one whose theme and skills appeal to you most.
4. What is the difference between a Magicka and Stamina build in ESO?
Both now scale off the same Weapon and Spell Damage stat, but your primary resource (Magicka or Stamina) determines which skill morphs to pick and which attribute points to invest in. Put all attribute points into one resource, not both.
5. What is a one bar build in ESO?
A one bar build fits all of its core skills onto a single ability bar, eliminating the need to bar swap mid-combat. These builds are simpler to play and still perform well in Veteran dungeons and most endgame content.
6. What is subclassing in ESO?
Subclassing is an endgame system that lets level 50 characters replace skill lines from their base class with those from other classes, allowing for cross-class combinations and completely custom identities on a single character.
7. Can I solo most content in ESO?
Yes. Overland content, Delves, Public Dungeons, and World Bosses can all be soloed comfortably. Certain Group Dungeons and harder Veteran content are possible solo with well-optimized builds, though significantly more challenging.
8. Does race matter for builds in ESO?
Race provides passive bonuses that can benefit certain build types, but the difference is modest and will not make or break your character. Focus on playing a class and role you enjoy first, and optimize race if you want to min-max later.
9. What build should I use if I want a simple, easy rotation?
A Heavy Attack build or One Bar build is the best starting point. Both deliver competitive damage through straightforward gameplay and require no complex rotation management.
10. What is the difference between a leveling build and a beginner build in ESO?
A leveling build guides you from level 1 to 50 with optimized skill choices and early gear options. A beginner build assumes you have reached level 50 and focuses on easy-to-obtain gear sets and simple setups to get you playing effectively as quickly as possible.
11. What build types are available for group content in ESO?
Group builds in ESO cover three roles: DPS (damage dealers), Tanks, and Healers. Each role has dedicated optimized builds tailored to perform at the highest level in Dungeons and Trials.
12. Can I change my build after I have already leveled in ESO?
Yes. Skills can be re-slotted freely, skill morphs and attribute points can be respecced for free, and champion points are easily redistributed. Changing your build in ESO is one of the most accessible systems in the game.
