Why these songs?
Because they are broken, life wasn't kind to them growing up and it still is rough and demanding with everything they see and do for S.H.E.I.L.D. But they found each other. They help and support each other in a way that's more than friendship or being partners. So the lyrics and the tone/feeling of the songs just seemed to fit.
