Is it possible to remove these two lines, or is go mod tidy pulling them in again?

LGTM - if removing the two gopgk.in lines from go.sum doesn't work we'll just merge this as is.

Reverted top level go.mod to fix backward compatibility * Updated readme to include directions on Go Modules, including the rationale
