CI failure root cause: the golangci-lint step in lint (macos-latest) timed out, not a lint violation.

Evidence from run 22359070976 / job 64706959923:

• Command ran with --timeout=30m --whole-files.
• Log shows level=error msg="Timeout exceeded: try increasing it by passing --timeout option".
• Step ended with golangci-lint exit with code 4 after 2836083ms (~47m16s).
• Other matrix jobs (windows-latest, ubuntu-latest) passed.

Recommended fix/remediation:

1. Re-run the workflow once to confirm whether this was transient macOS runner slowness/cache miss.
2. If it reproduces, raise the macOS lint timeout above 30m (for example 45m–60m) in the golangci-lint workflow config for this backport lane.
3. Optionally reduce lint scope for backports if policy allows (to avoid repeated timeout-only failures).

Tests run by me:

• No local tests executed in this read-only workflow; analysis is based on GitHub Actions job logs only.

Follow-up:

• After timeout adjustment or rerun, verify lint (macos-latest) completes and overall check turns green.

/ai Does this also happen on main?

For the original bug in #48690: yes, it was reproducible on main at the time the issue was filed (the issue body explicitly lists main among affected versions). In the current repo state, main already has github.com/elastic/elastic-agent-system-metrics v0.14.1 in go.mod (same version this backport brings to 8.19), so this specific hostfs/self-monitoring error should already be fixed on main.
