Mentors are now allowed to edit posts and mark threads as unresolved. Should mentors be allowed to alter posts made by instructors?

This only allows the mentors to view the button. There are checks on the server side when the button is clicked to ensure the user has the correct permissions to open the edit post for the given user. Take a look at the screenshot below, the button is visible for a mentor but when it is clicked an error message pops up. Take a look at server.js:1534 which calls getEditPostContent in the ForumController (needs to be changed in checkPostEditAccess).

Also to make a Limited Access Grader you can simply go to manage students and change the group for a given user through the pencil icon.

Changes added. Now mentors can edit posts, change the thread status, add/delete thread categories and alter announcements.

@bmcutler I don't remember if this was discussed but should mentors have the ability to add/delete thread categories and alter announcements?

List of things mentors should now be able to do

  • toggle thread status (resolve/unresolve)
  • toggle thread categories
  • create/delete/edit/reorder thread categories
  • edit threads and post content (including TA/instructor)
  • delete/undelete posts/threads
  • show deleted threads
  • show merged threads
  • merge threads
  • show stats page
  • show post history
  • toggle display options (chrono, alpha, hierarchical)

List of things mentors should NOT be able to do

  • reveal anonymous user
  • get student's email
  • toggle announcement

When toggling between deleted threads button, text should change between hide to show

Instead of
$this->core->getUser()->getGroup() <= 3
you can use
$this->core->getUser()->accessGrading()
which is more descriptive and allows anyone with grading (TAs/Instructors/mentors) to have permissions
