Description

@KarnaiahPesula

This epic aims to implement Cryptosporidiosis surveillance in SORMAS by introducing new disease entities for Cryptosporidiosis. The implementation will support case management, laboratory notifications, epidemiological investigations, and ECDC/WHO reporting.

Background

Cryptosporidiosis is a diarrheal disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Cryptosporidiosis. The infection primarily spreads through the faecal-oral route, often via contaminated water or food, direct contact with infected individuals or animals, and exposure to contaminated surfaces. The disease is of public health concern due to its potential for outbreaks, particularly in settings with inadequate sanitation and among immunocompromised individuals

Exposed population

Young children, particularly in daycare
Person in close contact with cryptosporidiosis cases
Immunocompromised individuals
Travelers to endemic regions
People exposed to untreated water sources
Agricultural workers in close contact with livestock
Men who have sex with men

Luxembourg has planned to include Cryptosporidiosis in SORMAS to monitor potential public health emergencies and outbreaks.

High-Level Explanation

1. Case Management & UI Enhancements

  • Case Tabulation: Enabled "Notified" by card, "INFO" & Case Classification button(ECDC), hide "Pre-existing conditions", enable "Additional medical information" and others.

  • Hospitalization Tabulation: A new calculated field as 'Length of stay' should be added and mandating the 'reason of hospitalization' field.

  • Symptom Tabulation: Update the symptoms for Cryptosporidiosis specific(e.g., abdominalPain,Diarrhea,Nausea, eggyBurps, Vomiting, weightLoss, Dehydration and so on)

  • Epidemiological Tabulation: Update the type of activies Cryptosporidiosis specific (Travel, Exposure to recreational water, Contact with symptomatic individuals, Contact with animals, Exposure to food, Sexual exposure, Flooded area, Other) with its relevent details.

2. Sample

  • Sample list: The sample list will be reduced to Cryptosporidiosis specific stool, intestinal fluid, biopsy.
  • Pathogen tests: The Pathogen tests will be reduced to Cryptosporidiosis specific(e.g., Microscopy, PCR, Antigen, Antigen rapid test, Genotyping)
