Besides the renaming, this one fixed the crash emerged in #1951. ACK for this

actually, this should look even better, the problem was caused by the missing static declaration, so the renaming of the variable is not needed... Sometimes you wonder what you did some month before... :-)

@haukepetersen, it looks good but I can't mandatory re-ACK before I tested with hardware. This won't be before monday. Sorry...
