Shaping Our Development Path

Today is: Sunday, June 14, 2026

The Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP), with a membership of over 1200 planning professionals of various persuasions, has promoted high standards of planning practice and served as the voice of Ghana’s planning community since 1969. Planners anticipate and shape the path of development through a functional appreciation and coordination of inputs from various professional disciplines of the world. They also promote the efficient and effective use of natural and man-made resources with consideration to physical, economic, social and institutional factors of development.

Shaping Our Development Path

Message From The President

On behalf of the Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP), I warmly welcome you all to this website. GIP is a voluntary Association of Professional Planners in Ghana. The Institute seeks to unite all professional planners, promote their interests and ensure professional standards through continuous professional development programmes and peer reviews.

As the lead institution for planning advocacy in Ghana, the Institute is collaborating with a network of other professional institutions locally and internationally. Key local partners include the Institute of Local Government Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, National Development Planning Commission, Chattered Institute of Building, Ghana Institute of Architects, Ghana Institution of Engineers and Ghana Institution of Surveyors. On the international front, the Institute receives tremendous guidance from the Commonwealth Association of Planners (CAP) which includes many African, Asian, and Caribbean countries.

I take this singular opportunity to pay tribute to members of GIP who have played various roles in raising the profile of the Institute to the current pedigree it enjoys at the global stage. I trust, that together, GIP will grow and live up to its slogan –“Shaping The Development Path” Thank you.
