Lol, Avatar.

The ship wars have begun anew. It's so stupid, and yet the temptation to jump in and start screaming is so strong. Goddamn shippers are stupid.

Also: Korra's got muscles. Muscley muscles. HUGE goddamn muscles.

Also also: Lol at all the fanart appearing before we even see her face. Am I horrible to hope she has some sort of disfiguring scar or bizarre tattoo or birthmark on her face, just so all this fanart will end up being really, really wrong?

She fucking terrifies me. LOOK AT HER. Something is horribly wrong with those eyes.

Also: if nothing else, Appa looks amazing in this movie. You're now only at -42 points or something, M. Shyamalan!

EDIT: Haha, I just realized the creature I was mistaking for a Klingon is actually the Blue Spirit XD Oh, such a silly-looking costume.

EDITEDIT: Dammit, with that realization, now all of the FN characters look like Klingons.

I do not understand how I can HATE everything I see or hear about the Avatar movie* and yet be so INCREDIBLY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

It's like Watchmen--even though I did not like the movie, I was excited for the DVD and bought it because OMFG WATCHMEN. Even though I was disappointed in the comic, I waited anxiously for the movie's release! To this day, I will occasionally rewatch the trailer and be filled with this sensation of overwhelming awe--the same overwhelming awe that I experience when watching the Avatar trailers, even though I hate virtually** every aspect of them, from the music to the voiceovers to the scenes!

I think I must be in love with the IDEA of an Avatar movie or something, because there's no other explanation for this confusing mix of emotions.

*Not James Cameron's or whoever's shit. I have an irrational aversion to that movie and refuse to see it.

**The only aspect of the trailers I do like is the bending effects. SO PRETTY 0_0

I'M DOING A SIMS LEGACY, OKAY?

I THINK I HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM.

The premise? Through breeding and maybe a few "accidents," get a town populated only by ghosts.

Everyone tells ghost stories, but few have ever seen a ghost...Collapse )

Such a crappy icon. YET I ADORE IT. BECAUSE...HE CAN DO THAT.

It happens to be 12 KBs too big for LJ. I'll fix that later.

No, I have no idea where the baby blue text came from. It was going to be fire engine red...and it came out baby blue. Huh.

I saw Trek yesterday! IT WAS GOOD.

I also ran to the comic book store, and thus was finally able to catch up on my Runaways. We went to the movie early, because, you know, popular movie on a Friday night, so I was reading comics book whilst waiting for Star Trek to start.

I was basking in my geekitude.

***

Star Trek was a good movie. I can't say it was Trek, because there is a certain way of cinematography and pacing and music that the movie completely failed to grasp (probably because Abrams doesn't watch Star Trek :P). But it was a good movie.

Heehee, I love Uhura!

I, uh, need to re-watch Avatar. Right now.

My Japanese homework isn't going to get done, is it?

So, I tried to update my version of GIMP to the latest version.

At first, I was unsuccessful because "lib.432ufafjfidoabewhatever was in use and could not be modified"! So, I closed all programs. Same error message. So, I restarted my computer.

Now, I can't update because "I don't have the necessary permissions"! Okay, fine. I repaired my permissions.

I still don't have the necessary permissions *headdesk*

WTF, GIMP?! Don't fail me now!

I'm going to go play Fable or something *grumbles*

EDIT: Haha, posted this, tried one more time to install GIMP before giving up, and it worked xP Gotta love computers...

Thanks to the wonder that is my Netflix subscription, I have started watching Dr. Who (the revamped newer series, not the old one, because I can't stand old skool special effects). I really knew nothing about Dr. Who, aside from that it was apparently a series that lots of geeky people liked. Being myself quite geeky, I checked it out.

's good stuff *nodnod*

Yeah, so that video is awesome and I wanted to show you all my shiny new userpic of it (the video is embedded over here).

Whenever I'm reminded that Obama is president, I still grin stupidly because...as one LJer put it "You know how everyone is worried that Obama is too awesome? It may be because he's actually too awesome."

Nonsense post is nonsensical.

I was all excited for new Scrubs. And...hated the new episode. Just...not a fun episode. And I watch my Scrubs for the lulz, not the deep stuff. Oh well.

I have discovered boxing on the Wii. Good lord, it is cathartic.

My college diet must be deficient in something, because I've had wicked cravings for carrots and cheese since I got back. I snack on carrots and cheese constantly.

String cheese is nummy.

I'm sitting down and reading Watchmen. This is my third attempt; the first two were aborted when I was distracted roughly 5 pages in xP

1. It bothers me that Gambit's eyes in the Wolverine movie are not Gambit eyes--they are normal eyes. Canon fail. It also bothers me that the movie looks like a suckfest--a pretty suckfest, but it's all going to be mindlessly beautiful violence. Hugh Jackman is letting me down here.

2. I really don't like the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon. It's just so average. It's watchable, but it is predictable, angsty, recycled plots; bad animation, and worse voice-acting.

3. Sometimes, I just remember out of the blue that Obama will be our president soon. I am then suffused with happiness.

4. Thanks to my b-day and Christmas, I now own every single season of Scrubs. This show snuck up on me (I ignored it for years), and now it's my crack. It's tied with Venture Bros for my favorite show of the moment.

5. Continuing in that vein, I have decided that the Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend are a wonderful couple. Except, she's now Queen Butterfly (I think? They never exactly renamed her after she married the Monarch, which they kind of had to, since she's no longer his girlfriend). These two may actually beat Mai and Zuko in the lame-but-sweet department.

6. I saw Marley and Me. It made me cry not one, not two, but three times. Tears were streaming down my face.

I'm on the campus of a highly liberal college.

There is a wild party going on out in the quad at the wall. I went out. There is dancing and congo drums and booze and smoking and some guy has one of those freaky big long Australian flute thingies.

We had an impromptu singing of "Star-Spangled Banner." And it was one of the most moving moments of my life.

I'm not sleeping tonight.

I just watched the entire 3rd season of Venture Bros IN ONE DAY.

Regarding the season finale: NOOOO, BROCK!!!! NOOOOO, 24!!!! CURSE YOU, HUNTER!!!!

God, I love this show. 24's death is even better considering that they devoted an ENTIRE EPISODE to how he was now a main character and thus invincible xD And then they blew his head off. Literally.

Such a good show...

College has drastically changed my internet habits. I'm so behind on everything it's not even funny.

Also, the Harry Potter movies are far more enjoyable when you fast-forward over the parts that have to do with Harry. Hmm.

Yep. The girl across the hall in my dorm room found a bat on the ground who was having some serious issues flying. I came over and looked at him, and she went to get a box and I carefully picked the little guy up.

I probably have fleas now. Oh well.

We put him in the box and decked it out bat-style (read: put a chopstick across the top so he could hang upside-down) and he's now in her room.

The funny thing is, I was just talking as I walked back from my work-study about how cool it would be to have a bat. There are bats all over campus, which has apparently re-triggered my love of bats.

Poor baby. His name is now either Avery, or Luther. Not sure which.

What are your guys' screennames? I lost them all :(

So, I am--

--Two weeks behind on Code Geass
--Two weeks behind on Venture Bros
--A week behind on Robin Hood
--I don't even remember what other fandoms I should be keeping track of
--Speaking of which, I don't even know when Avatar starts again, though I feel it must be coming up? I am so out.
--I have 50 unread emails
--My dA alerts are going wild
--My flist is insane
--Etc, etc, etc.

I am behind. In other news, the macbook is wicked awesome and I now want to do a ton of research about ghosts and microtubules or whatever (curse you, Will Storr, and your funny British soul-searching!).

I spent a week on a pretty lake with no technology. It was fun. Well, having your period with only pit toilets isn't fun. But the rest was. I did some heavy photo-taking with my (somewhat) new camera.

I also spent $100 at Half-Price Books on books. And they were half-price, so I have TWICE as many new books as you think I do! Read read read...I got a bunch of trashy fantasy nonsense. They were two bucks. What can I say?

Changed my layout. Can't say I'm too pleased with it, but I needed a change. Don't know how long I'll keep it. Image is from the X-Men: Endangered Species cover, links are from Muse's "Thoughts of a Dying Atheist." So...yeah. DARK! I need better colors...and to figure out how this Macbook works. It's a bit different.

Today, my car died. While I was picking up the girls I nanny from soccer practice. I was stuck in an empty parking lot in the afternoon with two hungry little girls waiting for a tow truck x( That's been the story of my day. Repairs cost $530. Clogged fuel filter...which is odd, considering I just had my oil changed and the mechanic should have checked the fuel filter. Yeah...

And I'm the proud owner of a MacBook :D

Huzzah! My grandma was going to treat me to a laptop for her graduation present to me. And my grandmother is...only completely loaded.

I thought she was going to give me a check for, like, $700? Maybe $750?

Yeah, I open her card, and out falls a check for $1,500. I was like "!!!!!!!" and she was like "Is that enough for a computer" and I was like "Dude, this is enough for like 50 laptops!"

So yeah :D I used to have macs, when I was little, but my parents switched over to Windows. And now I have switched back over to macs (Apple earned my loyalty forever by including the Nanosaur games on the iMacs. It's a dinosaur that shoots all sorts of weapons and kills other dinosaurs [to prevent dinosaur extinction, no less!]. God, I miss that game)

WHY?

WHY ARE YOU INVADING MY BRAIN, SEVERUS SNAPE? Why are you forcing me to find every scrap of shitty art and hideous fanfic that involves you? Speaking of which, WHY CAN'T I FIND ANY GOOD FANFIC OF SNAPE? Curse my shunnage of the HP fandom; now I don't have contacts! I don't know where the goods are!

Why can't I find a doujinshi involving Snape? Even if the story is crap, they usually at least have pretty arts. And sex. Sex is usually fun, even if I find the notion of Snape having sex beyond lolarious (seriously. The guy is asexual. Given the choice between sex with a bunch of supermodels and mixing potions, he'd choose potions.)

*SIGH*

WHY ISN'T JK ROWLING WRITING THE LIFE AND TIMES OF SEVERUS SNAPE RITE NAO?!

Oh yeah, and I graduated. BUT THAT CLEARLY IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS SNAPE.

I might be able to see Barack Obama speak tonight. He's in St. Paul, and I'm in Minneapolis, so it's just short jaunt over the river. I'm leaving as soon as my brother and my mom and her friend get home at 4. The doors don't open until 7, and Obama probably won't speak until 8:30 or 9. A lot of people are going, so here's hoping we get in!

Cross your fingers for me, please? :D I want to get in soooo bad. I saw Bush and Kerry before the last election, and I want to see the candidates live before this one (seeing as how I can now actually VOTE and stuff).

I am bored! Song meme, stolen from Renoa on dA.

[1] Set iTunes on shuffle
[2] Post the first line from the first 20 songs
[3] Have people guess what the song is!

You guess correctly . . . you get an icon or something. You can't use search engines though, as that is cheating!

01: Now I can't taste the war that I've been fighting
02: I awake to find no peace of mind
03: Now come one, come all to this tragic affair
04: Too many young
05: Let me tell you the story in the form of a dream
06: Girl, you have no faith in medicine
07: Lights go out and I can't be saved
08: We've tried so hard to understand
09: I see that smile
10: A lovestruck romeo sings the streets a serenade
11: You bite
12: I might be wrong
13: Red wine and sleeping pills
14: Turn away; if you could get me a drink of water
15: When I was a young boy
16: Who cares for the life we've earned
17: I'm gonna be a mighty king
18: Nobody ever had a dream round here
19: When you're taught through feelings
20: I heard a distant early warning

Guys, guys: I'm done with high school in two days. HUZZAH!

So...anybody watch Big Bang Theory? I LOVE IT. It's helping me cope with my Avatar angst about how I want to know SO VERY BADLY what happens, but mustn't because I don't want to ruin the end of the series. So, I need new shows. Big Bang Theory is very helpful. It's about geeks, and makes constant references to thing I understand so I can go "lol i no wut there talkin bout!!!11!"

And it's snarky. It's a snarky show. I love Sheldon.

Also, pretty sure I aced the AP Psychology exam. That thing was easy.
