ABOUT FORTRESS TECHNOLOGY

Built to protect what matters most

When you install a Fortress system, you’re trusting it to protect your product, your customers and your reputation. We take that responsibility seriously.

That’s why we design inspection equipment that works reliably, lasts for decades and comes backed by people who show up when it matters.

A commitment forged over 30 years

Fortress Technology was founded in 1996 with one goal: build inspection equipment that works better and lasts longer. From day one, we designed our systems to resist obsolescence. That means equipment you can rely on year after year.

Today, manufacturers across food, consumer goods, pharmaceutical and large format industries rely on Fortress metal detectors, checkweighers and X-ray inspection systems to protect their products and keep lines moving. The thinking behind our products hasn’t changed. Design it properly. Support it fully. Stand behind it for the long term.

Your line. Our systems. One long-term partnership.

We don’t treat inspection equipment as a one-time install. We treat it as a working relationship. Fortress inspection systems are built to stay in service even as production demands change. When requirements shift, we adapt existing equipment instead of pushing replacements. Parts stay available. Software stays supported. Service stays accessible for the life of the system.

Proof of Our Promise: The Toney Lumber Story

In the ultimate sign of equipment longevity and reliability, 25 years after the Toney Lumber Company in Louisburg, North Carolina installed its original rugged Fortress Technology lumber inspection metal detector – machine serial number 0001 – the 19-acre southern yellow pine saw mill has upgraded to a fresh model. The original inspection machine remained fully functional until the switchover.

From the start, our focus has been on developing customized, easy-to-use, effective, sustainable systems for our customers. Our Never Obsolete Commitment to our customers ensures we provide complete support for our existing metal detection systems with readily available parts and a global service team for the detector’s life.

1997

Phantom Metal Detector

Phantom metal detectors were Fortress’ inaugural line of metal detectors released in 1997, receiving an incredible response from the market and allowing us to grow into one of today’s leading Inspection Equipment brands. Phantom metal detectors are reliable, entry-level systems with metal detection performance equivalent to Stealth. Standard and custom solutions are available in aluminum or stainless-steel construction.

1997

Single-pass Product Learn "Quick Calibration"

Our Single Pass Product Learn Firmware is a quick calibration feature standard in all Fortress metal detector firmware. Our software will learn product effects with often only one pass and calibrate in seconds compared to some competitors, equipment that may take 20-30 passes to do the same. This means a more straightforward product setup and quicker, more effortless performance and stability optimization.

1997

Running Metalized Film Packaged Products

Metalized film is a weak layer of metal attached to poly film packaging, making it challenging to pass through any metal detector and still detect small metal contaminants in the product. Our exclusive electronics combined with our BSH fill option enhances performance, ignores signals from the metalized packaging, and allows successful detection of small contaminants in a run of metalized film packaging. This capability is available on all Fortress Metal Detector models.

2000

BSH

We developed the BSH fill option for Fortress Technology metal detectors to provide superior stability that overcomes external factors that interfere with metal detection, such as vibration and conductive product characteristics like those found in meat and dairy. BSH prevents your metal detector from interpreting these disturbances as the presence of a metal contaminant, which can lead to false rejects and additional costs for your business.

2009

Stealth Metal Detector

Stealth Metal Detectors provide exceptional metal detection performance and are custom designed to suit any application. Stealth technology comes standard with Contact Reporter software (via USB). Software is updatable via USB so as new features evolve, they can be easily applied. Stealth hardware is expandable and compatible with all ancillary Fortress products and features like; Remote I/O boards, Contact 4.0, Contact manager, Communication adapters, and Halo Automatic Testing System.

2010

Halo Automatic Testing System

Halo is an automatic metal detector testing system that runs performance verification routines on all Fortress “Halo ready” metal detectors. Halo mimics field disturbances of ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless-steel test samples through the hardest to-detect position in the aperture. It is ideal for applications where manual metal detector testing is difficult due to access, position or environmental conditions. Halo meets auditor requirements and saves time, money and labor while removing the risk of human error.

2010

Roll-out Gravity Systems

Fortress Technology's rail-mounted reject system for its Gravity Metal Detectors allows the reject valve to roll out for full access to the product tube and flow area. This innovation provides quick and easy access to the product flow area inside the valve and product tube, supporting fast changeovers and sanitation unlike other Gravity systems that are typically enclosed.

2012

Multilane Systems

Our Multilane system is a compact metal detection system that cuts the equipment footprint by over 50% to optimize factory floor space. This bespoke unit is uniquely divided into individual metal detection apertures within a single integral case and is therefore much more sensitive than a single larger aperture. The Multilane system drastically reduces product waste while maximizing detection performance with individual reject control for each aperture.

2014

FM Software

Our FM software is developed with compatibility with all previously manufactured Fortress detectors and can be field installed on Stealth models. The FM software analyzes detection signals and uses an advanced algorithm to calculate the signal strength based on functions of time and amplitude. This can significantly improve performance in certain applications, including large bags, by at least 40%.

2014

Modular Web Inspection

The Modular Surface metal detector is custom manufactured to inspect products typically presented as sheets or a continuous “web.” The Modular surface unit uses a unique rail-mounted design, allowing easy access for maintenance and repairs. They can be pulled out of line even as a web of products runs across it.

2015

High-efficiency RF Generation

Our engineers created a high-efficiency radio frequency generation with advanced electronics that keep your electronics cool and work well within their capacity to ensure the longevity and stability of your metal detectors. This efficiency prolongs the lifetime of Fortress Technology metal detectors – guaranteeing they last over twenty-five years.

2015

Interceptor Metal Detector

Interceptor Metal Detectors improve stainless steel detection capabilities up to 100%, reducing waste and costly false rejects in challenging applications. It’s ideal for inspecting more difficult “wet” products such as meat, dairy and other conductive products. The Interceptor simultaneously analyzes multiple frequencies over a broad spectrum to clearly distinguish the signal generated by the product from any metal contaminants.

2017

Ethernet/IP Communication

Connect with your fleet using Fortress Technology’s Ethernet-IP Communication. It seamlessly integrates into existing networks to remotely control all of your systems from one point of control. Ethernet-IP communication allows you to adjust metal detector or checkweigher settings easily and set parameters for your fleet from a central computer 24/7, saving you time and resources.

2017

Meat Pump Metal Detector

The Meat Pump Metal Detector incorporates a “seamless” product scanning pipe constructed from a single piece of solid Delrin. It is resistant to solvents and chemicals, does not corrode, eliminates all potential bacteria accumulation and is an FDA-approved material for food contact. Most pipes have fittings on the ends that are a potential bacteria trap. The system's easy disassembly function provides complete access to hard-to-reach places and simplifies sanitation practices.

2017

FRAM Memory

FRAM Memory ensures the stability of product records and reliable, uncompromised contaminantdetection. In the event of power failure, your metal detector will remember product settings andparameters to ensure you achieve consistent and reliable performance. This saves you time thatwould’ve been spent resetting your metal detector and prevents any opportunity for metalcontamination during a power disturbance. FRAMmemory gets you back up and running smoothly in no time.

2017

Web-based User Interface

The built-in web browser feature is available on Fortress Technology checkweigher or combination systems that allow you to communicate with your system remotely. When connected to the same network as your system, you can easily access the machine’s control panel by accessing the system’s internal webpage using any website browser. Simply open your checkweigher’s web page to view it as if you were standing in front of the system.

2018

Firewall Box

The Firewall design prevents your metal detector from being subject to line-borne electromagnetic interference (EMI) and total harmonic distortion. These come from cumulative sources in your production facility, such as motors, fans, conveyors, pumps and power supplies. Developed by Fortress Technology, the Firewall separates external noise from the metal detector search head to ensure its isolated from any electrical disturbance.

2018

Interceptor DF

Unlike other multi-frequency metal detectors, the Interceptor DF was developed with a divergent field technology, and it’s the world’s first metal detector to use multiple EM field directions. This dramatically improves the detection of ultra-thin contaminants such as metal foils often encountered in processing lines and are now an easy target for this variation of the Interceptor.

2018

Contact Reporter Softtware

Contact Reporter Software is included with every version of our Stealth and Interceptor metal detectors, establishing them as an effective critical control point. This easy-to-use, plug-and-play software complies with stringent HACCP and GFSI standards. Data is transferred from the detector to your computer using a USB drive. The data output provides fully traceable QA information – detailing all timestamped detector events like detections with peak signals, faults and settings changes.

2020

Raptor Checkweigher

Raptor checkweighers are highly accurate, fully integrated checkweighing systems designed explicitly for high-care food production environments. Available in standalone, caseweighing and combination system variations, they are employed to verify the weight of each product and reject non-conforming packs.
