Author and Interior Designer, Grace Interior Design LLC.
Grace Borgeson
Grace Borgeson’s journey into conservation began in 1998, when she first fell in love with the African bush. After more than a decade of returning to South Africa for safari experiences, Grace and her husband purchased property in the Hoedspruit area in 2009—a decision that deepened her commitment to the community and gave her firsthand insight into the challenges and triumphs of wildlife conservation.
Her home in the bush brought her into close contact with the dedicated men and women working tirelessly to protect local species. One of the most profound experiences of this journey was her relationship with Douwlina, a white rhino rescued as a days-old orphan after her mother was killed by poachers. Raised at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre and later reintroduced into the wild, Douwlina became the inspiration for Grace’s award-winning children’s book, Douwlina – A Rhino’s Story (2012, Bright Sky Press). The book opened doors for Grace to speak in classrooms and boardrooms around the world, raising awareness about the devastating impact of poaching and inspiring action to protect rhinos and other endangered species.
Grace’s professional background is as diverse as it is accomplished. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University, she began her career as a real estate financial analyst with Goldman Sachs in New York City. She later earned her MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College. Following her marriage to Shawn, the couple built their life in Austin, Texas, where Grace served in multiple roles at Amy’s Ice Creams—including CFO, business manager, interior design consultant, and even ice cream scooper.
In 2011, Grace combined her entrepreneurial spirit, faith, and love for Africa by co-founding Hope 12 Industries, LLC (now Grace Interior Design, LLC). The company’s mission was to create U.S. market opportunities for African artisans, producing custom furnishings and lighting while empowering craftsmen who might otherwise lack access to sustainable livelihoods. For Grace, providing legitimate economic opportunities is essential in addressing the root causes of poaching, particularly in rural communities.
Today, Grace and her family continue to divide their time between Tampa and South Africa, dedicating their energy and resources to the fight against wildlife crime. Her work is guided by her faith and by the conviction that lasting change begins at the intersection of conservation, community, and compassion—anchored in her steadfast belief that “Love Never Fails.”
