Los Alomos wants to get rid of plutonium by shipping it to the southeast.

22 08 2012

They want to rebrand it as MOX fuel(!) in Tennessee and N. Carolina.

“The current plan has no firm commitment for an end user after a commercial partner backed out, although weapons officials express optimism about preliminary talks with nuclear power officials at the Tennessee Valley Authority. Critics say the MOX approach adds to the time the plutonium would be vulnerable and at risk for falling into the wrong hands.

The plutonium disposition process was expected to be centralized at Savannah River in North Carolina. But when cost overruns and budget priorities pressured the National Nuclear Security Administration to abandon plans for a central disassembly and conversion facility at Savanna River, the agency decided to investigate distributing that first phase of the work to several different locations, including the Plutonium Facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory. There, the plutonium oxide feedstock for producing MOX can be produced by the lab’s Advanced Recovery and Integrated Extraction System.”

On That 1,300 Figure fot Fukushima Deaths Stanford Put Out

19 07 2012

The most likely number of cancer deaths is 130 and estimated to range from 15 to 1,300, the authors said, adding that the ranges reflect uncertainties about emissions and the methods the researchers used to calculate their impact.

It gets analysized neatly by EX-SKF and is contradicted by Nuke Pro.

Nice try, nukies!

Japan Economy on the Brink: Has Japan Run Out Of Cans To Kick?

No. 1 plant’s stability doubted

No one has yet been able to determine the exact location of the melted fuel inside the containment vessels or to ascertain just how badly damaged the fuel rods are, while the plant also is not viewed as sturdy enough to withstand another powerful earthquake in the near term.

Giant Nighttime Fire at Fukushima

27 01 2012

Fukushima Daiichi nuke plant in Japan lately has a giant fire visible on the LIVE CAM every night (Japan Time).

TODAY it is burning ferociously and a new ‘side fire’ that is smaller is buring to the right side of the big ‘bon-fire’.

We took a screengrab in case it all dies down or TEPCO shuts off the camera – –

#1 the Bon-Fire, extra large today      #2 smaller, new side fire

NOTE: The timestamp is at the top.

Related: Ene-News says the spraying of saltwater on the meltdown is creating extra distributable radiation. The ease of moving increases with the chemical changes wrought by the saltwater. It sounds a lot like the sham ‘dispersents’ used by BP in the Gulf of Mexico to hide their massive oil slick. The private mixture just sent the oil to the bottom, out of sight, so they could have ‘clean’ looking photos of the surface. The double-toxic mix is getting pushed inland killing the vital marshes along the Gulf.  Details are on Florida Oil Spill Law’s blog.

Fukushima may be in an apocalyptic downward spiral

22 05 2011

Fukushima’s apocalyptic threat demands global action NOW!!

by Harvey Wasserman
Fukushima may be in an apocalyptic downward spiral.

Forget the corporate-induced media coma that says otherwise…or nothing at all. Lethal radiation is spewing unabated. Emission levels could seriously escalate. There is no end in sight. The potential is many times worse than Chernobyl.

Containing this disaster may be beyond the abilities of Tokyo Electric or the Japanese government. There is no reason to incur further unnecessary risk. With all needed resources, it’s time for the world’s best scientists and engineers to take charge. Even then the outcome is unclear.

For a brief but terrifying overview, consult Dr. Chris Busby as interviewed by RT/TV.

Fukushima Units One, Two and Three are all in various stages of melting down.

Molten fuel at Unit One may have burned through its reactor pressure vessel, with water poured in to cool it merely pouring out the bottom.

A growing pond of highly radioactive liquid is softening the ground and draining into the ocean.

There is no way to predict where these molten masses of fuel will yet go.

Especially in the event of an aftershock, steam and hydrogen explosions could blow out what’s left of the containments.

The extra plutonium in the MOX fuel at Unit Three is an added liability.

At least one spent fuel pool has been on fire.

The site has already suffered at least two hydrogen explosions. Some believe a fission explosion may also have occurred.

All have weakened the structures and support systems on site.

These shocks and the soft ground may be why Unit Four has partially sunk and is tipping, possibly on the brink of collapse. Even a relatively minor aftershock could mean catastrophe.

More explosions are possible. More leaks are virtually certain. . . . (more)
