ONLY FLOATERY tubes allowed on our Property / River Access

River Tubing FAQ — Dan River Float Trip Questions Answered

Our private river access point is for Floatery customers only. Anyone arriving at our property via the river using non-Floatery tubes — whether meeting a group or cutting in from upstream — has not completed a waiver and will be considered a trespasser. No exceptions.
Additionally, our staff provide thorough safety briefings but cannot assess every individual’s swimming ability, physical fitness, or language proficiency on your behalf. When asked if you can swim, please answer honestly. Your safety depends on it — and ultimately it is your responsibility, not ours.

Floatery runs Saturdays and Sundays from May 30 through September 13, with possible weekday openings throughout the season — follow us on Facebook for updates. Gates open at 8:00 AM.
First shuttle departs at 9:00 AM and the last shuttle departs at 2:00 PM.  Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled float time to complete your waiver and attend the mandatory safety briefing. Late arrivals may not be accommodated.

We sanitize each and every tube/tracker/lifevest before your use with a commercial vinegar solution (safe for vinyl).  Certain sunscreens and fabrics the customers wear may leave black hue on the vinyl and/or lifevests, it is not mold or dirt, it is stains that can not be helped in this industry.  All lifejackets are ran through the washing machine, however, they still may have some black stains as mentioned due to repeated use.  It is impossible to get 100% of the dust/dirt off all items, as you are at the river and stagging is on gravel.  When we wipe down the items with the vinegar solution, naturally when sat down for staging the orders, some dirt may stick to the moist vinyl.  Rest assured we care and make sure all items are indeed sanitized and cleaned regularly.

We do not offer refunds but will issue an Electronic Credit (not to be confused with a purchased Gift Certificate) for a future float of your choice (valid for that season) if your trip is cancelled due to weather, or you cancel your trip 48 hrs prior to your float date. We do not issue credit if you cancel last minute and we are still going to be  open, as we only cancel due to weather if lighting or heavy rain is in the forecast.
Totally get why cancellations are a drag, but safety first! NC weather and river conditions can shift fast, and Duke Energy’s water releases can spike CFS overnight, making tubing risky if heavy rain hits upstream. Waiting until the night before or early morning to decide is smart—keeps everyone safe without jumping the gun. Please note that cancellations made last minute or arriving on the wrong date cannot be credited, as these bookings reserve spots that could be used by others. We kindly ask you to double-check your ticket details and selected date to ensure a smooth adventure. We regret any inconvenience, as our booking software charges non-refunded fees we cannot absorb. Thank you for understanding and supporting our mission to restore Grogans Riverfront!

We do have a rinse off station (not a full shower) and changing stations. Our changing stations are the pull around type you may see in department stores, we chose this type because they are off the floor some and allows us to clean after each set of people that use the three stations.

You can store your items in our Changing Room.  Someone is there 24/7 and we have 12 Cameras on the property, including at our takeout area.  All your belongings and cars are safe at our facility in the back parking area, use caution in any other areas you may park, lock up and do not leave anything in view that others may want.

The Dan River is a beautiful, natural body of water that can change with weather and other conditions. Currents and debris may be present in the channel, and we do our best to inform all customers about any known issues to ensure a safe and enjoyable tubing experience. We contact the correct agencies when we find debris; however, we have no control over debris or conditions outside of our operations.  Our location is far from any dams that could pose a risk. The rapids, at entry, are exciting, but the water is 20 feet deep in that area with natural currents. After storms there could be debre, as well, given its a natural river. PFDs are required for all participants at all times on the water. No exceptions. PFDs are provided at no cost. Your safety is our top priority, and we provide a thorough safety presentation with visuals, delivered in person by a trained staff member, not just a video.

Yes (Opening Mid-Late June 2026 – menu coming soon)— the Float Thru Café operated by Floatery is open on float days. Grab a bite, a cold drink, or a treat before or after your float right here on the Grogans Riverfront property. Please disclose any food allergies to staff before ordering. Outside food and beverages are welcome on the river and in picnic areas, not near the cafe area to conserve space for our cafe guests.

River Reset is a screen-free nature wellness program operated by Digital Device Detox on the Dan River. It is a more intentional float experience designed for people who want to unplug from technology and reconnect with nature. Learn more at riverreset.com.

In Rockingham county there is no ban on alcohol usage.  However, this isn’t your backyard or your friend’s swimming pool. Therefore, it’s important you follow some rules when you drink and river tube.

Rule #1: Drink responsibly while floating the river, stay hydrated
It’s good to have fun while drinking but every year people die on the river from becoming too intoxicated.  Plus, since you’re going to be out in the hot sun for an extended period of time, you risk dehydration. And of course, drinking is only going further contribute to that. Drink plenty of water.

Rule #2: Glass bottles are not permitted river tubing
Glass bottles are a no-go. You can guess why.

Rule #3: Styrofoam coolers are not permitted river tubing
Styrofoam coolers are literally not built to be taken on a 3-hour lazy river adventure.

Rule #4: Leave no trace behind when floating the river
Most of us really do care about the environment but sometimes after a few adult beverages, we can get a little careless.  Please bring your trash back with you, leave in the tube or tracker and we will dispose of it, as we have a responsibility to protect the environment and love this river.  If you are caught littering you will be reported to authorities.

Rule #5: NO Rowdy behavior or Drama
River tubing can be adventurous and relaxing but unsafe drinking behavior can also make it dangerous and not a pleasure for other patrons if you get too intoxicated.  NO liquor allowed. We have a zero drama policy and we will make you get off the river if you are reported. If you get rowdy, you will no longer be able to use our facility for tubing, as we are a family friendly property.

Prior to your arrival, the booking party is responsible for sharing the full waiver with all participants in your group. Every participant is expected to have reviewed the waiver before arriving at Floatery. Upon arrival, each participant will sign a one-page paper waiver at our waiver station — one per person, no exceptions. A master copy is available at the station for review. You can read the full waiver in advance here:  [WAIVER]
