Socialising

Socialising is very important to all of us. Whether you go out a lot or just sit in quietly with friends, it’s good to get back to doing what you enjoyed before you needed a catheter or leg bag. The key is to build up your confidence to do the things you love!

Who you tell about your surgery is completely up to you. It’s nice to have people you can trust to talk about your experiences, but don’t feel like you have to tell everyone if you don’t want to.

A great idea is to have some goals. What do you want to get back to doing? Think about how to build up your confidence like changing/emptying your bags in a public toilet, visiting friends, going back to your favourite restaurant etc. Start simple and you’ll soon think less about your stoma and more about enjoying yourself.

The most important thing to remember is to be comfortable with what you do and your own progress.
