First, we appreciate customers who care for and pay attention to their cars telling them something is wrong. Getting the code read is the best first step in a check engine lamp diagnosis. Sometimes the code given leads to a very straightforward fix. Like a P0455 indicates a large fuel system evaporative leak. Most first checks lead to a gas cap that was left loose and that is all. Some faults require us to open the hood and roll up our sleeves for next-level diagnostics to sort out a cranky sensor or shorted wire. So, sure, we’ll hook up our scan tool and pull a code to advise of next steps. If you have a loose gas cap we’ll erase the fault and send you on the way at no charge. If your car indicates there is something deeper going on, we’ll advise of our diagnostic estimate and we won’t exceed that without your prior approval. Unfortunately, the parts you bring us may not be up to our standards.  Your supplier may be offering an inferior product or not offer a good warranty. Or worse, a warranty that is not convenient to process. In all those scenarios, your supplied part will not offer a labor warranty for us to replace it if it fails. Last, but most importantly, without our diagnosis, us installing your part means if it fixed your car or not, you cannot return it and you’ve wasted your money for both parts and labor without a repaired car. Our commitment and respect for our clients’ car, money, and time puts us firmly in the position that we perform the diagnosis, we supply the part with a workmanship and parts warranty, and get our customers fixed right the first time. This saves our customers valuable time and money in the long run.
