The Féile Patrick Byrne developed out of two previous workshop weekends run by Carrickmacross Comhaltas in 2005 and 2006. The aim of both workshop weekends was to add to the teaching provided in the weekly branch classes. By bringing in eminent traditional musicians, our own students and others in the region would be able to access expert instruction to improve both their instrument technique and tune repertoire.

Outside of the féile, the branch holds weekly music and dance classes. On Saturdays, there are classes in tin whistle, fiddle, banjo and accordion in the Carrickmacross Workhouse from 3pm to 5.30pm. These are group lessons of between 4 and 6 students. There are some dedicated adult only classes. 

On Mondays, we have set dancing classes in the Corduff & Raferagh Community Centre in Corduff at 8pm. 

All teachers and committee members are Garda vetted and the classes are run in accordance with Government health guidelines.  Class fees are charged on a term basis, with the term usually lasting for 12 weeks. In addition, we ask that students take out annual Comhaltas membership.

Many of our students also take private lessons on a one to one basis. This is recommended as it complements the group lessons run by the branch. We also sometimes hold one-off workshops during the year as well as the workshops held during the Féile Patrick Byrne weekend.
