The Adventure Playscape is six acres of climb-higher, run-farther, stay-longer energy designed for all ages. This is outdoor play at a whole new scale. You don’t just visit once. You explore it differently every time and the adventure grows with your child.

January 23 - May 3, 2026Seeing Isn’t Believing
Your brain is incredible. It’s also wildly easy to trick.
Perception Deception is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud live science show that explores how the human brain interprets the world and how often it gets things wrong. Through interactive illusions, surprising demonstrations and volunteer challenges, guests experience firsthand how sight, sound, balance and body awareness can disagree with reality.
This live performance pairs perfectly with our Illusions exhibit, inviting guests to not just look at illusions but experience them in real time.
Live Science Shows are included with admission and free for members.
Perception Deception
Run Time: Approx. 25 Minutes | Daily: January 23 – May 3 | All Ages
What Is a Live Science Show?
A live science show is exactly what it sounds like: real science, performed live, by a real human, right in front of you.
No screens. No recordings. No do-overs.
Our presenters guide audiences through surprising demonstrations that reveal the science behind everyday experiences. They explain big ideas in fun, accessible ways, invite guests to participate and adapt the show to the crowd in front of them whether that crowd is full of curious kids, skeptical teens or adults who swear they’re “not going to volunteer” (until they do).
It’s part science, part theater and part controlled chaos.

Science Happens Live - Every Single Day
One of the coolest things about Perception Deception is that it’s performed live, multiple times a day.
That means:
- A real presenter
- A real audience
- Real reactions, laughs and surprises
Because the show is live, no two performances are ever exactly the same. Different volunteers. Different outcomes. Different moments that make the room erupt in laughter or disbelief.
You’re not watching a demonstration — you’re part of it.
You Could Be Part of the Show
Many of the most memorable moments in Perception Deception come from audience participation.
Guests of all ages may be invited to join the presenter on stage to test how their brains process movement, sound and touch. Volunteers don’t need any science background just curiosity and a willingness to trust (and then question) their own senses.
Don’t worry: participation is always optional, always respectful and always fun to watch even if you stay in your seat.
Perfect Pairing with Illusions
Visit the spring exhibit, Illusions, before seeing the show!
If Illusions makes you question what you’re seeing, Perception Deception makes you question how you’re seeing.
Together, the exhibit and live show create a deeper experience moving from hands-on exploration to shared, collective “wait… what just happened?” moments that guests talk about long after they leave the museum.
