Oedipus Alphaverse

In collaboration with Oedipus Brewing’s head designer Victor Brangolo, I developed a full type family reaching from Thin to UltraBold. The thicker the letters get, the more freedom they entail. To bring as much liveliness into the digital version of Victor’s hand drawn letters, we made a set of alternate letters, that are shuffled via OpentType features. It this is not lively enough, one can also apply a baseline-shift. Find out more on the minisite.

Bühne Burgäschi

In 2018 Bühne Burgäschi requested a new identity for their newest production, the Swiss folklore operetta GRÜEZI. As a reference, the operetta organisation pointed to classic Swiss tourism posters from the 1930s and '40s. Inspired by the typography on these posters, I created a variable display typeface and two text versions. Alpen Display and Alpen Text is currently being further developed and will be released as Arosa Display, Arosa Text and Arosa Script.

WIEGE DER SCHWEIZ

For Clavadetscher Gestalung asked me to improve and provide additional language support for a free font.

Usually my fist reaction is to recommend contacting the original designer of a typeface. After I was told, that the studio already reached out without any succes, I agreed to offer them my service.

Rather then improving and extending the bare-bone free-font, I based the refined version on a typeface with an Open Font License. Not without asking the original designer for consent and sharing my budget.

DE PRATRONENMAKER

For a website designed by Johannes Verwoerd, I created a variable font based on the open source typeface Publica by Gustavo Ferreira, by pushing its extremes to 0 and 11. The website uses the same 26kb font file for all animations, menu and body text.

Willem Sluyterman van Loo

The photographer, sound engineer and filmmaker Willem Sluyterman van Loo asked me to make a logotype for this new portfolio website.

The logo plays with the layering and interlocking of blocks in editing software, and uses a customised version of a typeface currently in development.

For a feasible additional fee, I offered Sluyterman van Loo a custom font, so he can use the same typeface as a headline font on his website.

DE TONEELMAKERIJ

Together with Esther de Boer, I designed a house typeface for her client DE TONEELMAKERIJ, a theatre company for kids and teenagers. Knowing Esther’s design preferences, I included a lot of icons in the typeface that became a key part of the identity.
