What’s, technically, the difference between Germans and Austrians? What makes them two different ethnic groups? How much they differ genetically, culturally, linguistically, etc?

    • andrew says:

They are basically Southern Germans, their language is similar to Bavarian. Austria Is a country of recent foundation.

      • Jonas says:

So he’s basically just German and Irish, with a little bit of french

      • Oaken05 says:

Austria – in one state or another – existed long before there was every an idea of a “Germany.” Austria was essentially Germany before Germany was even Germany. lol

        • Jonas says:

Then it’s the other way around, Germans are actually Austrians

          • Oaken05 says:

Well, except that Austria literally means “Eastern Realm” or “Eastern Empire” because it was east of Bavaria. It wasn’t an ethnic designation.

But I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t see any need to to meld them altogether. It wouldn’t make sense. Ethnic Germans take their name as having being the indigenous people within what is today Germany, and Austrians don’t call themselves German, of course.

He has always reminded me of both Tom Cruise (mainly Irish) and my buddy (fully Irish). So his look is very Irish.
