EDUCardS
The aim of this project was to test a methodological framework for the implementation of the European Student Card (ESC), to facilitate student use of the card, and to develop and optimise the services offered. (2019 to 2022)
EDUC and the European Student Card (ESC)
The partners of EDUC (European Digital UniverCity) create a truly integrated European University with students, researchers and administrative staff who learn, impart and work at universities differing in size, age, native languages and focus.
Using modern digital tools and face-to-face collaboration, we form a strong triangle of shared knowledge and academic values between Western, Central, Northern and Southern Europe, developing strong ties between local environments to tackle global challenges of the 21st century.
To closely monitor and share expertise for the ESC, the EDUC Alliances has joined the ESC Advisory Board in December 2022.
EDUCardS project 2019-22: Implementing the European Student Card in the EDUC alliance
The partners ran the EDUCardS project from 2019 to 2022. This project aimed at experimenting with a methodological framework for setting up the ESC, facilitating the use of the card by students, then developing and optimizing the services offered. Following this experimentation period, the partners set out to integrate the ESC development into its core tasks within the EDUC rollout 2023-2026.
What is the European Student Card?
The ESC is a digital framework which allows the students to use their current card, be it ISIC, university card or other, to access facilities and services at the host university in the same fashion as the local students do, thus minimizing the administrative effort and paperwork. Via this process, the visiting student will have an established digital identity in the information system of the host university, making the whole transition process easier for all parties involved.
The approach of the partners will make it possible to transpose this experience so that other higher education institutions can benefit from its results. Ultimately, we hope that the 160,000 students of the EDUC alliance will benefit from the European Student Card and will have easy access to various services within EDUC universities, thus allowing a simplified management of their student paths on a European scale. The EDUCardS project is a strategic partnership project (KA203) funded by the European Erasmus + programme.
Here are a few information related to the European Student Card that might help you prepare your mobility to the University of Potsdam. Whether you are on a short- or long-term mobility, the universities of the EDUC alliance are working together to make services available through the European student card and offer you a smooth stay.
All university services are accessible through the local student card that should be ordered following your registration process at UP. If you are a holder of an ESC from your home university, here are the services you are entitled to at the UP thanks to the ESC:
- Library services are made available to any EDUC students presenting an ESC issued by their home university. The process is currently being implemented among the campus libraries. As for now, the process would be the following:
-
you present your ESC to a library staff who verifies your student status
-
Libary staff will add you to the library user list and now you can:
-
use the library services such as borrowing books and documents, access to online resources at sight, wifi access and use of printing and scanning facilities
-
-
WIFI access: Independently from the ESC, any student (and staff) from a member of the Eduroam network can have access to wifi on the campus by selecting the “EDUROAM” network. You as students have to identify yourselves using your usual login details from your home university.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the ESC card is new and that not all universities across Europe have developed related services.
However, we hope that your ESC card will be useful during your mobility. When you arrive at your host university, do not hesitate to mention it and show it. It may make it easier for you to access certain services!
The universities of the EDUC alliance continue working together to develop priority services for students. If you are going on a mobility within an EDUC university, do not hesitate to make yourself known in order to help us facilitate access to more services.
3 main objectives:
1. Testing a methodological framework for implementing the European student card
2. Facilitate the use of the card by students
3. Optimize and improve the implementation of ESC
1. Organization of 4 mobilities for joint learning and practice exchanges aimed at increasing the skills and expertise of the staff involved in the project
2. Collaborative work on the implementation of the card and production of deliverables:
-
Development of a methodology for the implementation of ESC applicable to all HEIs
-
Development of a « user manual » for students
-
Experimentation within partner universities and report on the 1st year of experimentation of the ESC in order to help the implementation of the card in other HEIs
3. Organization of a dissemination seminar on the implementation of the ESC within HEIs
