Going back to school while working full-time hasn’t been easy, but it’s been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made, especially knowing I’m doing this for my family and our future. ECPI University has given me the opportunity to continue my education in a way that fits my busy schedule, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally. Each course challenges me to think critically, stay disciplined, and push beyond my comfort zone, helping me build the foundation needed to become an effective leader.
What I appreciate most about my experience at ECPI is how practical and relevant the coursework is. I’m able to apply what I learn directly to my career in manufacturing and operations, particularly in areas like problem-solving, communication, and team leadership. The support from my instructors has been incredible; they genuinely care about student success and are always willing to help. That encouragement has strengthened my confidence and motivation to keep improving.
My long-term goal is to move into management and leadership roles where I can help develop people, improve processes, and create positive workplace cultures. Being nominated for Student of the Week truly means a lot to me because it reminds me that hard work and dedication doesn't go unnoticed. This journey has taught me resilience, accountability, and the importance of leading by example. I’m grateful to be part of the ECPI community and excited to continue building a better future for myself, my family, and the teams I hope to lead.
My name is Yasan Lindo. I was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Upon completion of high school, I pursued a Teaching Diploma at The Mico University College. After earning my Teaching Diploma, I went to the University of Technology to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineer Technology.
Upon graduating, I taught various vocational education subjects at HEART-Trust National Vocational Training Center and Portmore Community College located in Kingston, Jamaica. I eventually migrated to the United States and I was enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Automated Logistics Specialist (92A). I later made the ultimate transition from being an Enlisted Soldier to an Army Officer. I joined the Army for a plethora of reasons to include serving my country, traveling around the world, experiencing cultural diversities, and a sense of pride. I am currently stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina – Home of the 82nd Airborne Division.
I am excited and grateful to be recognized by the academic staff of ECPI University for my outstanding performance thus far. I enrolled as a student in April 2021 and am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MSSE) with a concentration in Mechatronics. My experience with EPCI has been nothing short of rewarding. I have already started to apply some of the knowledge learnt at this illustrious institution. The staff are friendly and are always readily available to assist student. The thought of being a military officer in a high OPTEMPO unit and pursuing a master’s degree seemed impossible, but ECPI University made it possible by offering flexible programs with committed and dedicated staff.
My wife is my backbone, she constantly encourages me to realize my maximum potential. She reminds me that without confidence I am twice defeated in the race of life before I even started, but with confidence I have already won. Our first son was born in June and has attended almost all the zoom meetings so far. He is already a student too!
I officially began teaching at ECPI University in December 2024, bringing with me a background deeply rooted in service, leadership, and research. Born and raised in the Hampton Roads area, I proudly served in the United States Army before transitioning to the Department of Homeland Security, where I supported service members and their families with identified special needs. I am also a published research scholar, with work focusing on treatment efficacy for PTSD in combat veterans and adolescent suicide and depression. This research continues to shape how I teach, mentor, and connect with students.
Outside the classroom, I am a proud mom of three amazing boys who bring so much joy and energy to my life. We love traveling together and exploring new places and cultures whenever we can. As a family, we volunteer throughout the community with the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, Oasis Social Ministry, and Mercy Drops. Service is a core value in both my personal and professional life, and I am passionate about wellness, mentorship, and creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported. I am also an avid runner, currently training for a 10-miler and 5K next weekend, which keeps me motivated and grounded.
Teaching at ECPI allows me to connect deeply with students who are driven, focused, and balancing real-life responsibilities while pursuing their goals. I love helping students see psychology not just as a subject, but as a tool to understand themselves and others. Watching them grow in confidence and curiosity is what makes this work so meaningful. Education has the power to transform lives, and being part of that process at ECPI is both a privilege and an honor.
My name is Jay Steele, and I am a Software Development Program Academic Support Specialist (PASS) for ECPI Online University. I am also an alumnus of ECPI in Virginia Beach, where I achieved a bachelor's degree in computer science, graduating Summa Cum Laude in August 2022, and I began working here soon after. I'm a father of two, an avid gamer, and an aspiring indie game developer when I manage to have the free time.
