This story was alright. I did not enjoy this as much as the first book by Harris. I have decided to give this book 2.5 hearts which I rounded up to 3 hearts. Once again like all the other coy mysteries this was a quick read for me.

I have read this book within a few hours. Kari Jacobs have started a new life away from her hometown. Kari has lost her job and no other law firm will hire her. The only law firm that hired her was n Appleton. Appleton is new and strange for her as she is not used to it.

She made a new friend that she helped as a lawyer. Ashley, the new friend, was accused of murder. Her neighbour who was fighting with her before her death about her property. Kari found it hard to find her answers as everyone just believed that Ashley is the murdered and the city officials have become corrupt.

My Thoughts

**Please note this review is originally posted on my secondary Blog — Echos of Books  **

Another cozy mystery. Looks like I have a new genre I like to read.  I don’t normally read these types of books but I think I should read more. I am finding some nice gems to read. Anyway this was another fast read.

I did not think I will like it at first but I am glad I was mistaken. This story had no murders and such but there was a mystery.

This is about a young lawyer, Kari Jacobs, who has driven cross country for her new jobs in Appleton, North Carolina. Her car broke down on the way, near the Red Rivers Plantation.

Kari had to go and ask for their help. They would help her if she could walk the two Great Danes and solves the mystery of the Winter’s family Bible. Kari isn’t used to all the strange etiquette and manners to find and ask all the questions she needs. But in the end she figured out all that she needed.

This was a nice light read for me, easy mystery to follow while laying in bed.

Another of Lovett’s books that I have enjoyed. I am giving this a solid 4 heart rating. I always like that the cozy mysteries are nice and comfy and fast reads for me. These books take my mind f boring things while I am stuck late at work waiting for my lift and I have a headache from thinking too much. This book has let me loose myself for a short while.

Though I was dreading to reach the end because it is so difficult to find these in store where I’m from. I am still searching for more.

Now about this book: Lacy ‘Pink’ Pinkerton has left her 6 figure job behind to move to a small town. She has decided to open a flower shop. Though with her heightened sense of smell proves to be of use when she found someone dead in the small town. She finds herself caught up in the investigation with the detective, James Briggs. She is very determined to find the killer.

Sadly, this is the first of a series. I really want to read the rest of the series but still looking for the books near me. I did enjoy how quirky Pink is. This was just a nice short read, and I would like to see how the rest of the series develop.

My Thoughts

**Please note this review is originally posted on my secondary Blog — Echos of Books  **

This is the third story of Frostfall Island. Now this is another fantastic installment. Once again this story was such a quick and cozy read. I really think this book deserves the 5 hearts that I am giving it.

Like all the other times I still adore all the quirky characters in this series. Nate and Anna’s relationship is going slow and I mean slow burn that it sort of stopped when there was more info on the killer that alluded Nate while he still worked as a police detective.   Sometimes I still wonder if Anna’s husband really is lost at sea.

I really liked al the twists and turns of the book. It is winter in the story. The tourists is long gone but there is still activities going on. This story brings in the murder mystery when Simon Snowstone, the riches man on the island was found dead. And this all started with a hockey tournament.

Once again Anna finds herself solving the murder. She has to untangle a family history to find the killed Simon.

Every mystery that I have read by Lovett goes smoothly. Though there is still mysteries to be solved. Once again you cannot trust the police doing the job but thankfully Anna is there to do a good job. I really loved this cozy mystery and cannot wait to read more from London Lovett.

My Thoughts

**Please note this review is originally posted on my secondary Blog — Echos of Books  **

This is the second installment of the Frostfall Island and once again this was a real enjoyment to read. Lovett has made this book as interesting as the first book.

What is happening on the island this time?

Well Frostfall Island is hosting a massive romance reader event. You know where they could meet and greet their favorite authors. Cora and Opal, Anna’s sister and housemate were very anxious to attend. Anna decided to tag along.

This is where the most popular author winds up dead. As always the could not rely on the lazy and unreliable detective to catch the murderer and it is unto Ana to find out who committed the murder.

The fist book we thought Nate had a mystery and we where right. Anna now knows the secret and he has finally started to settle in with the rest of the housemates. He even joined the murder discussions. I can tell you the victim did not lack any enemies in this regard. Yes, Anna had a lot of work to do but she did end up with all the questions answered in the end.

I cannot wait to read more of this cozy series and learn more of all these quirky and unique characters. I would also like to see how Anna and Nate’s relationship starts to develop.

My Thoughts

Okay so I’m back to the paranormal and horror. Now I can say this will be a short review. This book was okay. It was fast paced with a possessed apartment unit built on a former asylum. There was nothing scary or suspenseful. There could be so much potential when it comes to a haunted asylum.

“We must study the past if we’re to understand the present,”
― David Longhorn, Rookwood Asylum

As I said before it was an okay read, but I would have liked a bit more of everything. The ending felt a bit rushed for me and there was still a lot of questions that haven’t been answered. I found the story entertaining enough but I doubt that I will read the next instalment. There were a few times that I had to force myself to read more. Thankfully this was a quick read.

My Thoughts

First off, all this is my first non-horror book I’ve read this year. Let me celebrate this as I am struggling to keep reading anything but horror or mystery. I haven’t read a lot of retelling books but I can tell you I really enjoyed this Peter Pan retelling. Can’t wait to go read more retelling books. This novel deserves the 4 Hearts I am giving this.

“Dreamers are always welcome here, whatever their reasons.”
― Austin Chant, Peter Darling

This book was so cute and sweet, and I really wish it could have been longer. I really did not know I needed this before reading the synopsis. I mean who would have thought Peter and Hook together as a couple. I did not see it coming and yet it was SO CUTE. This was your typical slow burn with Hook being the enemy to Peter at the beginning with all the sword fighting and attacks. I saw this as their version of foreplay as Hook finally come alive again. Peter was the only one who could injure Hook in a very long time.

I loved how they explored Neverland and what it could have been for each character.

“The very world here bends for the sake of your stories, Pan. I see no reason why I, a mere man, should not.”
― Austin Chant, Peter Darling

This book was unique, and I can tell you I adored it. I would very much reread it when I need a cozy read at night. I most certainly did not expect a trans Peter and that was one of the strongest elements and Austin Chant did an incredible job with Peters character.

Keira is ready for her life to return to normal. Though, to be fair, normal is a tall ask when your ability to see ghosts has landed you the job of groundskeeper in a small town’s cemetery.

When Keira receives an invitation to dinner at Dane Crispin’s crumbling ancestral estate, she knows she can’t refuse. The last living descendant of the Crispin family is reclusive. Keira only met him once…on the night he tried to kill her.

The mansion is steeped in history that is equal parts complicated and bloody. Keira senses the presence of restless spirits the moment she steps through its door. And Dane, waiting for her inside, wants to ask for her help.

My Thoughts

*ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. *

I haven’t know this was the third installment in the series until after I requested this on Netgalley so obviously I had to go and read the first two before I even started reading this.  (Go check out my reviews for The Whispering Dead and The Ravenous Dead.)

I can once again say this can be read as a standalone. I would recommend you read the pervious books. I cannot help but laugh as I read all three books of this series in one day. From reading very little books on my free time to reading three books in one day is really funny. Lets hope I can keep this streak up. I can say if I cannot find anything that catches my fancy then I would go and reread some fanfiction.  Yess people I love reading fanfiction especially crossovers but anyway back to this review. Each book in the series just get better by each page and I think it is my favorite so far.

You have ghosts and romance. Though this romance is going at a snails pace but I don’t care because horror / paranormal mystery should not actually be about romance. I noticed that almost all of Darcy Coates books are cozy and quick reads. I like this because I find that I am struggling to keep reading any heavy books lately so I love all the cozy horror mystery that Darcy writes.  There was plenty of adventures and we found out more about the organization that’s after Keira and why they might be after her. We also found out why Mason left from studying to become a doctor and a bit more on Zoe as well.

This was such a gem to read and I would recommend it to all Horror lovers who loves reading about ghost stories.

My Thoughts

This is the second book in this series and I noticed that you can read this as a standalone but I personally would recommend that you read the first book of the series before you read this. It gives us more backstory about Keira and how she met Adage, Mason and Zoe.  I liked this book just a tiny bit more than the first novel. That is why this has a 4 star review. This story begins right where it left of from the first book.  There are multiple mysteries going on just like The Whispering Dead. Keira is still intend to find out more about herself but it feels like it is on the backburner.  She is so intent to find out the identity of the John Doe buried in the cemetery but there is a malevolent and angry ghost intend to consume all the energy of the ghost and people. The more energy it consumes the stronger it becomes.

Keira’s friends are both different. Zoe is so quirky and she has a lot of paranoid conspiracies. I just wish the back stories of both Mason and Zoe would be explored more. I would like to know why Mason left his studies for being a doctor.  Zoe is researching the insignia of the organization that is targeting Keira but yet again we wont find out anything about that in this novel.

There is a tiny bit of romance but I mean you have to squint for that. Mason’s care for Keira is seen but nothing happens to take further action in the romance part. Once again this novel could have been spookier but this is still a quick and fast read. I would like to call it a cozy read. Wish I could have read this laying comfy in my bed instead of listening to the audio while at work. I love seeing the trust starting to build between the three friends with Adage knowing about her gift with Keira being afraid to tell Mason and Zoe. Yet when they know they help even more than before.

Still I enjoyed this novel and I will always look at Darcy Coates books first if I am in the mood for Horror or ghost stories.

My Thoughts

So this is my first review for the year. If you haven’t noticed it has been a very long time since I actually made time to just read for fun. I decided to start with this novel because I received an ARC for the third book in this series and I wanted to read and review that book before it was released. I started with this because I wasn’t so sure if the books can be read as standalones or not.

Lately I am struggling to read anything but horror and mystery. Anyway back to the review 🙂 I struggled between 3 and 4 star for this but in the end I ended with a 3. Now here is some backstory. One of the main characters Keira found herself in the middle of the woods with no idea how she ended up there and why she has some injuries. Someone was hunting here. As she runs through the woods trying to find a place to escape to she comes across someone out in a cemetery who helps her.  Adage, a pastor, hides her from those who are hunting her.

After  they started chatting and learning that Keira has Amnesia, Adage decides to put her up in a guest cottage at the very back of the cemetery. That is until he can go to town to find out who she might be. As Keira started to settle in het temporary new home she found out that she has the gift of second sight as she can see ghosts. There is this one mystery ghost that has been murdered and Keira decided to investigate and find out why she hasn’t moved on. She gets the help from a shop keeper named Zoe and a local doctor intern named Mason that Adage asked to help Keira with her wounds. Keira sets out to find whatever she can for these restless spirits while trying to find out more about herself and why she ended up in such a small town as Blighty.

Now this story was an easy read. Yes it was very entertaining but it was light on the horror. I would have liked it a bit more if it was more spookier. It dragged a bit on certain parts but near the end the book has so much more suspense and tension. Now this is the first in the series so obviously you wont find out all the backstories of Keira and why she should try to hide from unknown people who have been hunting he. Hopefully we will find all that in the rest of the series.

I would easily read again as this is fast read and I do love ghost stories.
