Babysitting Five Chicks for the Weekend

In the recent past, we spent a weekend babysitting five baby chicks for someone, who were roughly 2 weeks old and all supposedly girls.  Although they already had names, we decided to rename them for their brief visit with us.  For whatever reason, I think seasonings make for cute chicken names, so we named the yellow one Saffron, the whiter-yellow one Salt (or Salty Sally, since Salt isn’t a great sounding name…), the black one Pepper, the brown one Ginger, and the grey one…Rosemary.  Because I wasn’t sure what a grey seasoning was.

Rosie and Carmen’s New Cat Bed

About a week before Christmas, we were lucky enough to get a free cat bed for our kitties, Rosalina and Carmelita, from Costco.  And by free, I mean they gave us a really neat box for carrying our groceries that was absolutely perfect for cat babies to nap in!  When we first brought it home, Rosie climbed right in, then, refused to do anything else with it.  Meanwhile, Carmen was not convinced at all that this box was even worthy of her time.  Even a blanket was not enough to entice them to use it.  After a few disappointing hours spent wondering if our kitties would use their new bed, I finally adjusted the blanket so that part of it was now a makeshift curtain.  Now, with this added privacy, our kitties have been spending a lot of time using their cozy new bed.  I guess it just needed to be upgraded to a canopy bed, as our girls clearly have a taste for luxury.

You can just barely see Rosie inside, if you look closely enough…

Carmelita Likes to T-Pose

Our pair of Siamese cat sisters are quite goofy and not a day goes by where they don’t make us laugh at their antics.  Carmelita has an odd habit of laying on her stomach in a manner where she appears to be hugging the ground.  (I like to call it T-posing, ha ha!)  I finally got some photos to show off her outrageous cuteness!

Rosie and Carmen Get Bunk Beds

I recently realized that I hadn’t written about my dear Siamese kitties lately, Rosalina and Carmelita, and so this vile mistake must be corrected immediately.  It all revolves around a few photos I took recently, but for the sake of making this into a proper blog post, a little backstory is in order.  Let the padding commence!

The Paper Bag Strikes Again

So it’s late at night, probably ten or eleven, and I hear a crash from downstairs.  Almost in unison, Mother Duck and I emerge from our rooms at the commotion.  She tells me the cats came running into her room, and so, while she goes downstairs to investigate, I go to check on the kitties.  Carmelita is nowhere to be found, but Rosalina (pictured above) is peeking out from underneath Mother Duck’s bed, looking quite shaken.  On closer inspection, I discover that she has the handle from a paper bag hanging from her neck like a bizarre piece of jewelry (not unlike something Camelita did a while back…).

Rosie vs. Umbrella Straw

We left this cute umbrella straw in a cup on the kitchen counter. We return later, and the straw is missing. A while later, Rosalina comes over with the straw in her mouth, the umbrella shredded, quite proud of her work. The picture also shows a cute inflatable flamingo, which she later popped. We managed to fix it with glue, but the straw couldn’t be saved.

Cat Naps in People Laps

I haven’t talked about my Siamese cat sisters, Rosalina and Carmelita, all that much lately, so I thought I would, once again, recount a few things about my precious, little angels. Because you can never talk too much about your pets. To start, both cats like sitting on Mother Duck’s lap. Usually, Carmelita sits on her lap during the first half of the day, and Rosalina sits on her lap in the evenings. I have no idea why they won’t sit on me during the day time, but…

Christmas 2020: Vintage Movies, Cat Toys, and Lots of Funkos

Late though it may be, I wanted to share with you all how my Christmas went this year.  Despite 2020 being a wacky time indeed, Mother Duck and I still managed to have a pleasant little Christmas with our Siamese kitties Rosalina and Carmelita, who also got a little something for Christmas.  From movies to gifts, below is just a little summary of how Christmas 2020 went for the Duck of Indeed.
