The External Offload Media Addon for the Next3 Offload Media plugin allows you to offload media files that are generated outside the WordPress Media Library. These files are often stored directly inside the uploads directory or its subfolders and can quickly increase server disk usage.
With this addon, you can:
- Detect external media files
- Offload them to cloud storage
- Manage, preview, and reuse them inside WordPress
- Display them using Gutenberg blocks
Accessing External Media Settings
- Install and activate:
- Next3 Offload Media plugin
- External Offload Media addon
- Go to WordPress Dashboard β Next3 Offload
- Click External Media from the left sidebar
This opens the External Media management screen.
Selecting Folders for External Offload
Step 1: Include Folders
- Click Include Folder
- A list of folders inside the
uploadsdirectory will appear - You can:
- Select all folders, or
- Manually select specific folders (recommended)
π‘ Use selective folder inclusion to avoid unnecessary offloads.
Step 2: Sync Files
- After selecting folders, click Sync Now
- The plugin scans the selected folders and detects external media files
- Detected files will appear in the External Offload Files list

Once synced, detected files are displayed in a table with the following details:
File Information
- Thumbnail preview
- File name
- Upload time
- Provider (e.g., Bunny)
- Storage name
- Region
Optimization Status
- Compressed: Yes / No
- WebP: Yes / No
Filters
You can filter files using:
- ALL β shows all files
- Compress β shows compressed files
- WebP β shows WebP-enabled files
Pagination is available for navigating large lists.
Offloading External Media Files
To offload a file:
- Locate the file in the list
- Click Offload Now
- The file will upload to your connected cloud storage
Once completed:
- Refresh the page
- The file will appear under External Uploaded Media
- This confirms the file has been successfully offloaded
Managing Offloaded External Media
Each offloaded file includes action icons:
- π Copy URL β Copy the cloud URL for direct use
- ποΈ Preview β View the file in a new tab
- β Remove β Delete the file from cloud storage
β οΈ Removing a file from the cloud may break links if itβs already used on your site.

Gutenberg Blocks Available
Next3 provides two dedicated blocks for external media usage:
1. External Media Block
- Allows you to select one external media file
- Ideal for single images or media elements
2. External Media Gallery Block
- Allows selection of multiple external media files
- Displays them as a gallery layout
How to Add External Media
- Open any page or post
- Click Edit
- Click the β Plus icon
- Search for βExternalβ
- Choose:
- External Media, or
- External Media Gallery
- Select media files from the external media list
- Save or publish the page
