OUR SERVICES

Comprehensive Care for
Every Stage of Your Journey

Newborn Night Support

We’ve been serving parents across the GTA since 2004! We’ve learned a thing or two in that time. Our newborn night support service covers the Greater Toronto Area, including Aurora, Newmarket, the Kawarthas, Peterborough, Barrie, and Oshawa. We’re also now in Ottawa, supporting families from Orleans to Kanata.

Overnight Doula

Overnight support is our most popular service because we ALL need our sleep! When a new parent is trying to recover from birth, it can be helpful to have someone come and take care of the baby so they can sleep.

DB Newborn Night Support

We know:

We’ve used our years of experience (since 2004) and our AMAZING team here at Discover Birth to create newborn night support services that will help you in a way that’s right for you. We know that this might be new for you. And maybe you’re not sure if it’ll be worth your time and money. Well we ARE sure.

How much does the service cost?

Our fee is $365/night. Save $10 per night if you prebook/prepay 30 or more nights. Overnight is considered childcare and you will be given a childcare receipt. There is also no HST on overnight support – bonus!

Questions

Common Newborn Night Support Questions

Who are our Overnight Doulas?

Our overnight newborn service is provided by mature and experienced postpartum doulas. This is the highest level of training and experience you can find for someone to take care of your new baby. We specialize in newborn care, behaviour, sleep, as well as the added bonus of specializing in breastfeeding/feeding support, and adaptation to parenthood.

We begin each night by discussing how the day went, helping a family by answering any baby care questions, feeding questions, and just touching base with how you’re feeling. We will then take care of your baby(ies) for the entire evening so you can get some sleep. Our shift typically runs from 10pm to 6am.

Of course! All the time. Many of our doulas are twin experts!

No! Of course not. Whether you need help for one night because you’re not feeling well or 3 months, we can help you.

HOW CAN I BOOK YOU?

Just call us or email us below to get things started. If you’re booking for several shifts, we can send you a couple of doulas to meet so you can pick the one that’s the best fit for your family. If it’s just for one or two nights, we’ll send you our best doula with availability!

Because this is our MOST popular service we encourage you to book in advance as much as possible so your dates are reserved.

What we do

A postpartum doula is a newborn and parenting expert. Are you looking for a postpartum doula in the GTA or Ottawa area? Want to learn more about what a doula does? We cover the Greater Toronto Area, including Aurora, Newmarket, Oakville, the Kawarthas, Peterborough, Barrie, and Oshawa. We’re also now in Ottawa, supporting families from Orleans to Kanata.

Our doulas don’t:

We don’t take over your role as a parent

Babysit (we’re there to teach you and give you an extra hand, but typically our clients are in the home at the same time as us)

We don’t do major housekeeping (washrooms or yard work)

You know that old saying about taking a village to raise a child? Well that’s us! We’re there to help you fill-in the gaps that your own mother/aunt/sister/neighbour would have filled for you a hundred years ago when we all lived in small communities. A doula will help you feel more confident as a new parent, so you’re ready to continue your journey after she leaves.

When you hire a postpartum doula in the GTA or Ottawa area you get:

Postpartum Doula Rates

Daytime shifts require a minimum booking of 4 hours, and overnight shifts require a minimum of 8 hours. You can tailor your doula’s schedule based on the number of visits per week that suit your family’s needs.

  • 4–49 hours: $50/hour (+HST)

  • 50+ hours: $46/hour (+HST)

Overnight care is offered at a flat rate of $365 per night (8-hour shift).

To secure your doula, a two-week retainer is required. You will be billed weekly until your retainer is applied—typically during the final two weeks of care. For short-term bookings, full payment is required in advance.

If you’d like to extend your doula support, please notify us as early as possible to ensure availability with your preferred doula.

Questions & Myths

Common Doula Questions & Myths

If my spouse/partner will be there do I really need a Birth Doula?

A Doula is someone who has special experience and education to provide support in labour. While a partner may be your perfect emotional support, it’s quite unrealistic for them to remember everything they learned in childbirth classes or to remain unemotionally involved in the experience. A Doula is not there to replace your partner in any way. In fact, most support people will say that their Doula helped them become more involved in the birth experience by encouraging them to do things they wouldn’t have thought of.

Doulas should support your plans for pain management. It’s rare that you would be able to get an epidural as soon as you get to the hospital, and they don’t always work. You will always benefit from someone who can help reduce the pain you are actually perceiving, thus helping your labour to progress smoothly and quickly. Many doulas will also meet you at home and help you stay there in early labour to avoid being sent away from your hospital because you’re too “early”. Most women are worried about how they will cope, losing control, and just fearful in general. A doula can minimize all of those feelings during pregnancy and through labour.

It’s great that you’re feeling confident! A doula will help you remain confident through labor, and give you the extra support you may need if things don’t go as you hoped. Many confident women claim their doula gave them the extra support they needed, and was a constant throughout their labor.

My wife and I were in the middle of trying to navigate a colicky baby who didn’t want to sleep, and reached out to Discover Birth for support. We will always remember the first night after waking up from our first proper sleep in months and hearing that our doula Kylie was able to get our baby Alice to sleep well in her bassinet, something we had been struggling to do for weeks at that point. We are so grateful for her help, professionalism, and care throughout this process. – Ben & Lauren

Doulas and midwives commonly share a similar philosophy: patients should use informed decision-making strategies. A midwife’s role is very different from a doula’s however. Midwives have many medical responsibilities that are out of scope for a doula, freeing the doula up to focus on your needs and your partner’s needs. They work very well together.
