U.S. Embassy Praia now accepts online fee payments for passport applications, notary services, and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad.
The U.S. Embassy in Praia offers all American Citizen Services including passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBAs), Consular Reports of Death Abroad (CRDAs), and notarial services. To request an appointment, please use the Embassy’s on-line appointment system. If correct and complete documents are presented at the appointment, it will take approximately 3-4 weeks from the date of the appointment to receive a U.S. passport. The Consular Section will usually return passports and CRBAs on Mondays at 11 a.m. You can review the requirements and fees for passports below, and for CRBAs, CRDAs, and notarials elsewhere on our website.

You must provide one photo on a white background with your passport application. Our photo policies apply to adults and children. We have a few exceptions to our photo policies for infants.
Emergency U.S. passports are issued only in extraordinary circumstances, usually involving medical reasons, a death in the family, or the commission of a serious crime against a U.S. citizen requiring urgent travel back to the United States. Please be aware that the rules for emergency passport issuance are strict, and a consular officer will determine if your situation meets the standard for an emergency. The need to travel on short notice (including vacation travel) is generally not considered sufficient in and of itself to permit the issuance of an emergency passport.
