When you hear eating healthy, what comes to mind? Probably the food you put in your mouth right? Salads, greens, more fiber? Yeah that’s a good thing to practice, but healthy eating is not just what we feed our bellies. Healthy eating is how we live our lives. What we consume into our beings.
I remember a long time ago when Tall Cool ☺ne was first prescribed blood pressure medicine. I asked the good doctor if he could still eat pizza and drink beer. The doctor kind of grinned and then said, “Honey, it’s not what your husband is eating, it’s what’s eating him.”
Healthy consumption of life. What we put into our lives is as important as what we put into our bellies. We must strive to not let Satan tempt us with something we don’t have. He pointed Eve to the one thing in the Garden of Eden that was forbidden. Instead of being thankful for the many good things that were freely available (the garden was filled with luscious desirable fruits), she focused on that one thing God said not to touch. Negative focus darkened her mind, and she succumbed to the temptation.
Practice thanksgiving, take nothing for granted; salvation, sunshine, the song of a cardinal on a tree branch first thing in the morning. Changing the way we think, changes the way we feel and practicing the discipline of thanksgiving is more than eating healthy. It’s a way of life.
