Why Cook with Us
A Legacy of Trust. We pioneered the “Market Tour + Hands-on Cooking” concept 12 years ago, at a time when local tourism lacked true flavor. With over 400 verified five-star reviews, our reputation is built on consistency and community. Your visit directly supports the local vendors and farmers who have been part of our journey since the beginning.
Beyond the Recipe Book. Most classes show you how to cook; we teach you why it matters. Our curriculum is built on over a decade of field research into Sri Lankan agricultural heritage and sacred traditional practices. You aren’t just preparing a meal; you are engaging with a documented history that even most locals have never explored.
The Soul of the Sri Lankan Kitchen. We believe true flavor lives in the clay. Our sessions focus on the mastery of “Flavor Management” using heritage clay pots and traditional equipment. We are not a cold, commercial kitchen; you will cook in a relaxing, authentic home setting that captures the true warmth of Sri Lankan hospitality.
Shop Like a Local Expert. The market is our classroom. We don’t just walk you through; we guide you through the “Expert Selection” process we use for our own research. Learn to identify rare heirloom vegetables, detect the purity of spices, and experience the vibrant market culture inherent to our island’s culinary DNA.

In fact, we were the first in Sri Lanka to introduce this combined experience in 2014.
Our cooking venue is in Colombo, Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, the capital of Sri Lanka, just a few kilometers from the Sri Lankan Parliament and a short drive from central Colombo.
There’s plenty to enjoy around our Rustic Cooking Class location in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the capital of Sri Lanka and a peaceful residential green belt of Colombo.
After your cooking class, you can visit nearby historical and cultural landmarks such as Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya and see the impressive architecture of the Sri Lankan Parliament.
For a more relaxed experience, take a walk around Diyawanna Lake, explore Ape Gama to experience village life, or enjoy coffee at a Bakery at the Lake, Tea Burst with a beautiful, calming view.
Nature lovers can enjoy a peaceful nature walk at Beddagana Wetland Park or go birdwatching at Diyasaru Park.
In the evenings, Diyatha Uyana is a great spot for Sri Lankan street food. You can also relax with a drink or cocktail at the Boardwalk beside Diyawanna Lake.
Despite being the administrative heart of the country, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is known for its green, residential surroundings, calm environment, and lower congestion compared to central Commercial Colombo.
No. Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is the official capital of Sri Lanka, not a suburb. However, it’s often left out of popular tourist checklists.
Nearly 90% of Sri Lanka’s key government administrative offices are located here. This includes the Sri Lankan Parliament, headquarters of the three armed forces, ministers’ residences, the Immigration Office, the Western Province Council, the Speaker of Parliament’s official residence, and major departments such as Forestry and Agriculture.
It’s approximately a 20–30 minute short drive from Colombo’s commercial center, with access via wide, scenic roads.
This area was once the heart of the Kotte Kingdom, the only kingdom based in what is now Colombo. When the Portuguese first arrived in 1505, the Kotte Kingdom was the most powerful kingdom in Sri Lanka. Even today, you can still see traces of this rich history through several historical sites in and around the area.
