Connection in Action also provides information and education for service providers, community groups, and older adults across Halton who want to learn more about Halton’s older adult population, the value of social connections, age-friendly best practices, and where Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs) are located across Halton. What are Social Connections?

  • It refers to the number and quality of relationships we have with the people around us
  • These relationships can be with family, friends, neighbours, community members, and so on
  • They play an important role in our health and well-being

LITE Education

  • Strengthen your skills and increase your capacity through our Loneliness, Isolation to Empowerment (LITE) Education
  • Topics include social isolation and loneliness, elder abuse, ageism, and age-friendly communities
  • This 3-hour education is offered free of cost to service providers, volunteers, community groups, and older adults

Halton’s 55+ Population (2021 Census)

Adults 55+ make up 29% (170,565) of Halton’s population.

Burlington has the highest population of older adults among the four municipalities of Halton.

Burlington is home to almost 65,000 older adults, making up 35% of its population.

Milton is home to almost 25,100 older adults, making up 19% of its population.

Although Halton Hills is home to fewer older adults (19,010) compared to Milton, they make up a higher percentage at 30%.
