Student Travel Funding
The Student Travel Funding deadline is June 17, 2026
To be eligible for student travel funding:
- Must be travelling more than 500 km.
- Be enrolled in a Canadian university
- Be a CIM Student member
- Include a letter of support from your current supervisor
- Undergraduate or graduate student. (Priority is given to undergraduate students.)
Students winning this grant may be required to provide their Social Insurance Number and mailing address to CIM. All grants will be wire transferred AFTER the conference. Notifications will be sent early July.

Deep Void Terminating at Eutectic Si Facets Containing Microcracks

This false-color enhanced SEM image presents fractographs of tensile specimens for a cold-drawn hypoeutectic Al-Si alloy wire, emphasizing fractured eutectic Si particles within a deep void. The void terminations align with Si facets, indicating brittle fracture behavior. Additionally, microcracks on Si fracture surfaces suggest stress concentration points that contribute to crack propagation. These observations reinforce that fracture of eutectic Si particles or void initiation at these sites plays a pivotal role in damage mechanisms of these alloy. False-color mapping enhances visualization with overall contrast using a viridis colormap.
